I mean, when she was crying in that damn garden. It was partly from being emotionally abused for years by that time. Anyone would emotionally break after years of being treated like that. So, that moment in the garden doesn't count as 'weakness,' to me. And yes, I agree with what you're saying, mostly. Also, Cinderella had to deal with a lot of assholes.

I really relate to the garden scene since I was verbally abused by my dad alot and I'd run to my room and break down similar to how cinderella would, unfortunately I didn't have a fairy godmother 🙃

I don't think this is unpopular in that no one really ever says the things you say "everyone always says." I think we mostly all agree that Cinderella made the best of a bad situation, befriended animals, and she deserves to be happy.

To be fair I don't cinderella necessarily forgives them she just isn't cruel towards them. I guess she does forgive Anastasia but she did redeem herself in the 3rd movie. But I agree I don't like how in most abuse narratives the main character is expected to be the bigger person and forgive

Yeah like I can understand some criticism toward others like Ariel or Anna even if I think people overblow them but cinderella I just don't see the faults others do I feel she's well written.

She is my favorite princess for a long time. She is kind, hard-working and resilient. She didn't want a man- she wanted to attend a party to have fun. She was "saved" by her kindness.

I always found it weird that Cinderella was her real name. In Dutch it's even weirder, it's Assepoester, that means something like 'blowing the ash'. If I remeber correctly (but it's been a while since I saw the movie), it wasn't a nickname her stepmother gave her, but her actual name. Other than that, I agree with you, she isn't a weak character at all.

Yes, originally she is called Ashputtel in the German version in Grimm's fairy tales, which means ash girl or cinder-ella, but it says they just call her that because she is covered in ashes and it's not really her given name.
