Spiders are not the arachnid you should fear most. Ticks are the most frightening arachnid. amirite?

And thanks to climate change, the Lone Star Tick (carrier of the complex that gives you Alpha-Gal Syndrome) is starting to appear further north than they have in the past.

It's not just beef. They can make you allergic to all mammal products if you are particularly unlucky.

Kinda yeah. You can still eat fish, poultry, and eggs though

Not only that, i saw a video of how they could survive in oxygen free environment for a long time.

If this is actually popular, I'll be surprised cause I've heard nothing about tick phobias, don't really see any tick hating memes in the media, or even anything mentioning them at all other than those "Be safe in the woods. Check for ticks." announcements. People are generally pretty casual about them too and don't freak out much like they do with spiders. And if it is popular, I'm happy to be wrong about it being unpopular. I want them to get all the hate.
by juliebogan1 day ago
The thing about phobias is that they're irrationaI. I don't think anyone would be irrational for fearing and hating ticks.

Spiders are more widespread. I've yet to see a tick crawling up my bedroom wall or hanging from the ceiling in my stairwell. Especially for people who don't spend much time out in nature. Plus ticks just aren't an issue in a lot of areas. I recently moved to Pennsylvania from Washington state and ticks being an issue was a shock to me. Back home, ticks were basically just a mosquito that stuck to you, we weren't really worried about diseases, they were just a nuisance. My family and I would get them all the time when backpacking and it was always more annoying than worrying.

Who else just learned right now that ticks are arachnids and not insects? (raises hand)

Lyme's disease enters the chat

Just from the possibility of alpha gal syndrome, I have to agree with you.

Is this unpopular? Pretty much all the stuff I see about ticks is how terrible they are and they should be killed if found.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Yea I'm not from there. Where I live, most people I know are not as concerned as you guys. They're just like "Oh look. A tick. Ew. No big deal." They act like nothing happened and they are not concerned they may have caught something from it. I don't get why they're so chill about that but will scream like they're in a horror movie at a harmless spider. I'm not even kidding. I've seen it.

I've never heard of Tick Free NH, are they trying to get rid of ticks in the state like Alberta getting rid of rats, or just spreading awareness so people stay tick free?
by No_Task1 day ago
I think it is because I feel crazy for being scared of ticks cause of how casual people are about them. People scream about spiders constantly but not about ticks. It's like no big deal to people. If this is actually popular, I'll take the L and be relieved because they really need the hate that the spiders get.

I was diagnosed late with Lyme Disease. BE. AFRAID. OF. TICKS.

Spiders hate bugs just as much as you do, so they make it their goal to 1. avoid you because they're scared of you too, and 2. eat as many other bugs as possible. Even if you're arachnophobic, you have to acknowledge that spiders at the very least share a common goal with you when occupying the same space. That's enough for me that they're chill in my books. Ticks are just pure evil beings specifically designed to transmit some of the worst diseases known to man as discretely as possible. The only good tick is a dead tick, which is also unnecessarily difficult. The only reason you're not scared of ticks is because you don't know enough about them.

Ticks need eradicating

Don't think this is unpopular. Nice Spiders learn your routine and avoid you so you can cohabitate in peace and they eat your bugs (still have to avoid them because my entire body starts to tingle when I see one) but I am aware that they are decent roommates (where I live a least I imagine in Austria la things might be different. Ticks are the absolute worst. I grew up in a region where tick transmitted diseases were a "normal" problem people had and know several people who got Lyme. We duck tape then shut because that's literally the only thing to dispose of them (for people who are not that familiar with ticks they are basically impossible to kill)

I'm currently hanging out with a spider. I tell them "if you don't hurt me I don't hurt you". Little fella is welcome to stay, I have one too many mosquito bites and I appreciate the spider helping. Ticks however? Terrifying. I am scared of nature solely because of them. They do nothing but spread diseases and I fully believe the world would be better off without them. There's two animals I'll kill without hesitation: Mosquitos and ticks, but especially ticks. They are so dangerous it's them or me
by walterlelah1 day ago
I think many people are living in ignorance on this one. If you explain to people what ticks are and what they can do, they understand.

True unless you're in Australia I guess

The funnel web spiders they have are no joke. Now those are like one of the only scary spiders.
by juliebogan1 day ago
True. Spiders are awesome and ticks are the worst thing nature has ever made
by Anonymous1 day ago
I read Charlotte's Web when I was a kid and I've liked spiders ever since. Ticks are revolting but it's the diseases they carry that are really scary. I've had Lyme disease more than once, and I have friends who've gotten babeosis, anaplasmosis and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Ticks are awful a lot of people getting Lyme disease from deer ticks where I live
by Uhalvorson1 day ago
Ticks are awful, and logically I know I should be most afraid of them, but they are only second for me. I have always had an irrational fear of scorpions.

I would much rather encounter a tick than a Black Widow or Brown Recluse
by nyasiabogan1 day ago
You are far more likely to encounter a tick than either of those.

For real! I live in the country and the spiders aren't not the pain in the ass especially when you have a lot of animals
