+58 "Receiving gifts" is such a B.S love language. amirite?

That sounds nice, I'm not sure that even qualifies as giving gifts, as opposed to just doing things for your significant other. But if it works for them, I guess there's no harm in calling that gift giving.

Yeah I'm sure there are gift people that demand a lot more and give a lot less, but you could say that about any of the love languages.

Fair point.

But the adorable part that you described is the giving of the gift, not the receiving of it. Nothing wrong with receiving a gift, but its not nearly as adorable for someone to just receive a gift.

Well yea, of course people like receiving gifts. Like I said, nothing wrong with receiving a gift. The dividing line to me is when a person expect gifts (outside of situations where its normal to give a gift), and will be upset if they don't get one, claiming its their "love language." Granted that's not a common thing, but it is something I've seen.

Yea, I guess it's not clear when receiving gifts as a love langue becomes obnoxious as opposed to cute. Like so many other things in life, it's all about the details.

Let's be honest and admit that love languages were invented as a way to talk about the implied contract of effort=sex in order to let the dude know where to invest his effort.

I agree, I think the whole love languages thing is stupid as a whole tho Although to be fair I think a lot of people really enjoy expressing their love by giving gifts, which is nice at least

Someone said the "Love Languages" was created by a Christian man as a way to coerce wives to have more sex with their husbands. Not sure if true? There is THIS article.

My love language is someone who does everything for me, constantly idolizes me, and never criticizes me in any way whatsoever. Its not my fault I'm single, its just that nobody understands me love language!

If receiving a gift, spending my hard earned money is what is going to make a woman love me then I'll be single for life

by Wolfwalter 2 weeks ago

It's not really different from acts of service

Yes you're probably very superficial lol I love getting my share of gifts but I realized at 16 that was not a real form of love. It's currency. There's full blown adults teaching their kids that is a proclamation of love. It's a cop out even if you're comfortable with it.
