You should write a book explaining that idea. There is a ready made audience of desperate people who would buy it

Just like any genre in publishing, you got the good literature, and the fillers. Self-Help books have value too. Not all, but many do. And I think it's normal to recycle ideas and have them written by different authors because what works for some might not work for others.

This depends on so much. Thats like saying fiction books are boring and difficult to follow just because some, if not most are. There are some great self help books out there written by psychologists that really point out flaws in the way we think, and the shared experience of knowing its not just you who thinks this way but there are others who have been able to break that cycle is helpful. Also if you change the view from 'self help' to 'different perspective' you can work more with it.
