Unopened packages are actually way funner than opened toys & products. amirite?

Just think, the best part of getting a present is the suspense of ripping open the wrapping paper, so why not just never remove it, thereby staying in suspense?

why are you edging yourself with mint condition action figures?
by Anonymous2 days ago
Cause I like to have them in my collection but I'm not interested in playing with them
by Fragrant-Sleep2 days ago
No. The best part is playing with it. I can't think of a single toy growing up that was boring enough that opening it was the exciting part.

I had these Lego sets as a kid, 3 in one car, I opened it because it was reusable and than kept my batman set unopened. I was more interested learning things like calculus and geometry on Kahn academy than playing with my nurf guns so I kept some of them in their packaging.

Makes sense to me.

So for you the enjoyment is purely in the owning? Like that's the joy that something belongs to you? For me, if I've bought something the joy is in the use of it. Yeah I enjoy things that look nice, but I also want to interact with things. Would you be happy with just an empty but pristine box? Because it still then looks like the thing at the store?
by Anonymous2 days ago
But do you never want to use any of these things or interact with them? Does your house just look like a warehouse full of stacks of boxes?

I only use practical things (im a minimalist) I have one cast iron deep pan that I use for all my cooking, one spork, one knife and one flashlight. I have unopened makeup kits from Walmart that I have because I like the collection, and for the most part I like hiking rather than playing with toys.

I don't know if you can like a collection and also be a minimalist. Minimalism is all about function and not being stuff you don't need or don't use. So buying stuff that just sits in a box is not compatible with minimalism
by Anonymous2 days ago
My minimalism is more about not crowding my environment with things that could distract me or slow down my day. Because i'm functionally oriented and if I have a toster oven in a box that could potentially accomidate my 10 guests from out of town while making breakfast than I could use that. But if I realize 4 years later that i've never used it than I can sell the toaster oven on ebay for more than I would be able to if it was packageless. Same thing applies to toys that I don't want to use, once opened it's harder to find a home for someone who really wants it so I'd rather keep it in a box so the recipient won't overlook my toy that I would eventually take to the landfill

What? Is it funny take Friday? I collect (fake) legos. Where is the fun in not taking them out of the box and buidling them? Anime figures look objectively better when displayed out of the box. The boxes often just look bulky and in the end the room looks like a warehouse rather then a nice collection. I am seriously asking myself what toys would be better left in the box?!

no, I didn't stay up til midnight to reach Friday sir.

I swear I had a stroke reading this. The logic isn't computing

We would have a much smaller plastic dump if there wasn't this fascination with fancy packaging.
by tadwalsh2 days ago
And we'd have a smaller dump if people didn't throw away their toys after using them once.
