Military or just an American?

are you in the military? if not, the issue does not apply to you.

This ... people in some countries keep telling that they need guns to fight tyranny when it arrives. Guess what? They fight nothing when tyranny actually knocks at the door.

"some" is doing a lot of.lifting there.

that, or they try and fight, and get a tank shell to the face, underscoring how useless it is to fight.

I spent many years in the US Army. The rifles they issued me always had a right handed selector switch. During long CQB training days, carbon debris from the ejection port would blast onto my face, and up my nostrils. The first problem is in excusable since it only costs a few cents extra to make the selector switch ambidextrous. The second problem is mostly negligible since we rarely did intense CQB training.

Use a gun that has ambi controls then.

Right side cartridge ejector has entered the chat

There are a number of left-handed long rifle options, roughly proportional to the size of the general left-handed population. If you're looking for a left handed or ambidextrous gun you shouldn't have any more trouble sourcing one than a regular gun.

I bought a left-handed AR15 back in 2006. Excellent rifle that didn't cost much. I just wish it had the same barrel weight as a government issued M4.

Guns should not be in the hands of citizens (apart from special occasions, like a hunting license) anyway.

Facists love this guy

by nienowamerica 2 days ago

Ya, and they're ranked 5th in home invasions. I wonder why

Australia has a very low rate of violent crime, and a very high perception of safety. Burglary rates by country are very unreliable because they depend heavily on reporting. Seriously, virtually nobody wants the gun laws reversed. It was a right wing government that enacted them, and it's widely accepted as the one thing Australians across the political spectrum agree John Howard got right.

People who design a firearm to be right-handed ought to be shot./s

by Stunning_Clothes_711 2 days ago

I don't know why everyone's response is it doesn't matter? Military is a very valid career choice, and firearms should not solely be designed for just one hand.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Thank you. An infantry squad leader told me his left-handed soldiers struggle with the M249 machine gun.

by Last_General 2 days ago

Could be worse, could be in the UK and the SA80. Cocking handle straight in your face with every shot.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Oof. I know a dude from the Royal Army. He said those SA80's were complete rubbish.

by Last_General 2 days ago

I think everyone that touched or seen one agrees, but the rifle really is a huge middle finger to the left handed.

boohoo

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You mean you DON'T like firing a .22 semi auto rifle and getting a hot cartridge in the face?! Lefty problems

by Anonymous 2 days ago

So use a bolt action then

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They do it not because they wanted to, but because ambidextrous guns are very hard to design. The main issue is casing ejection, you need either forward ejection or a switchable port, so it will be more complex and more expensive
