I've never seen 2001. Guess I'll give it a watch. I don't think Nolan was appealing to intellect really, but I do think interstellar portrayed the emotional journey of patience pretty well in a very pretty way.

Agree. I don't think anyone even debates this or compares those movies though. 2001 is hands down better and Interstellar probably wouldn't exist without it.
