Half of your argument is based on "forgetting to water it."

In my garden I dont worry about most things that trouble me in real life. I'm focused on pulling suckers, training vines, catching infestations early, keeping weeds at bay, what's getting too much or too little water etc. It also gives me time to work through things mentally, in a quiet and solitary environment. So while gardening is hard work, its also a great mental break and is very rewarding. Plus, by this time of year I'm swimming in the tastiest watermelons, tomatoes, peppers, cukes, and greens you'll ever taste.

Well said. I've tried involuntary fasting and it's not exactly what I would call relaxing, either.

Nobody cares what you enjoy or find relaxing, why do you care what others enjoy and find relaxing?

These kind of "unpopular opinions" are the worst ones, when it's just someone's preference of a hobby. Like okay, you don't like it, then don't do it! There is no interesting conversation to be had about this opinion.

You have never heard of the thing called sun protection? Like suncream and hat?
by Anonymous2 days ago
In Australian primary schools (kindergarten through to grade 6) we have this saying of "no hat no play" meaning if you didn't bring your hat to school you weren't allowed to play outside. They also usually give out free sunscreen. It teaches people at a young age to be sun smart (although not a lot of adults seem to remember or care).

I appreciate those who can garden and for some people it can be relaxing. I have a friend who loves being outside and in the dirt. I think gardening is also one of those things you kind of have to be committed to otherwise you won't get much reward out of it. For me personally, I couldn't do it. I don't like getting hot and sweaty. I also hate dealing with bugs more than I already have to. And it's not something I could really commit to. But I appreciate when my neighbor offers me veggies they grew!

Omg thank you!!!! This is what i've been trying to say, i was just stating why I don't like gardening, i wasnt trying to hate on people that like gardening. I also think people forgot this is unpopular opinions

There is such satisfaction and joy in seeing something that you planted grow into something beautiful. That's why I enjoy it

This just sounds like you aren't a good gardener. People who do it as a hobby actually water the plants and plant what they want to plant without caring what others think. Their meals are made from the food they grow, which is very rewarding. They are outside away from screens and spending time planning their family's needs. Even if they aren't growing food they take the time to plant in season flowers and shrubs that make them happy when they look at them.

I was thinking this too. The way OP described gardening it sounded like they are bad at it.

I'm unfamiliar with this definition of gardening. For me, gardening is growing fruit/veggies. Some people do flowers. I don't do it to feel one with nature, I'd never trample through my garden and kill everything.

I share your unpopular opinion.

Tending to plants is relaxing. Gardening is work.

Why should someone have to convince you why they enjoy something they do? We all have our own interests; you have hobbies that make no sense to other people yourself.

I just have a tiny yard so I don't do much weeding. I don't risk sunburn because I wear sunscreen and wear a big hat :3 No heat stroke either cuz I stay hydrated. I don't put in plants to impress other people... I do it for me. I also grow vegetables that I eat. I really only get dirt on my gloves and my knees, and I can just wash my pants after. It's not all over me. I don't forget to water my plants either? Most people who garden probably don't forget that... Every problem you listed I literally don't deal with?

You're making me feel bad for my gardeners

Its arguably the most important technological innovation in human history.

It is hard work, and nit relaxing but oftentimes rewarding

"I do not like Hobby x" is not an unpopular opinion, it's just a stupid take.

An hour in the garden = 1 mg Ativan.

So, anything that's somewhat physical and needs some time to learn can't be fun or relaxing?
by Anonymous2 days ago
Growing indoors takes away a ton of those complaints.

I find it peaceful and deeply rewarding. The excitement of seeing a plant flower or the first signs of fruit forming is fantastic. Curating your space to get the theme or outlook that I want just makes me happy. Then with a bit of work that same space can look entirely different the next year. Then there's the enjoyment of sitting out amongst it on a nice day. As for cost, I'm a budget gardener, I don't spend a lot, most of my tools are second hand or rescued. You can also forage for seeds and cuttings everywhere too.
