+65 I think it's unacceptable that the Air Canada union leaders could go to jail for defying the strike but there's people in Canada who have murdered or assaulted and get off on bail or have similar sentencing. amirite?

Hurrr durr DAE not know what bail means!? Must be the fault of them gotdam libruls!!

Someone who is released on bail is not "let off"; they haven't been convicted yet. Bail is only to ensure someone shows up to court; it's not a punishment (you get it back, even if you are convicted, as long as you show up to court). You may disagree with the length of sentences for some crimes, many people do. However, it's disingenuous to compare retributive punishment (such as a jail sentence for murder) and the jail time for the union leader; the latter said leadership can end at any time for complying with the governmental order.

They threatened oilfield workers with this in Alberta recently. Does it actually get used?

Governments virtually always care more about businesses than citizens. Anything that may affect profits is treated as the gravest of crimes.

Tell me you don't know what "bail" means without telling me...

So by this logic no one should ever face jail for anything short of murder. Or even murder, since it would be unfair as there are people who have committed murder and are "let off on bail" (something I don't think understand the definition of, but we can go with your premises).

Canada sucks at pretty much everything when it comes to the average citizen. The governments sole job is to make life worse and worse for Canadians.

How so?

The government doesn't set insurance rates. Nor do they actively police the wording of rental advertisements. If you are seeing genuine malpractice on a regular basis, that's terrible. I'm not sure how it's the government's fault though. You should be reporting malpractice to your team lead or the licensing body.

It's not. But law systems are not flawless. Good lawyers defending criminals vs bad lawyers trying to put them away. Maybe there just isn't enough evidence to convict someone of a crime and we certainly don't want to go down that road. One thing I hate is the court of public opinion, OH HE DEFINITELY DID IT1 Did he? You saw him did you? You didn't even know who they were 10 minutes ago and he apparently committed the crime 2 months ago. Yet you're mad they're not getting put away for something you have no idea if they did something? Also, while 1 crime might be worse to an individual. What if the lesser crime affects more people? You can have a crime that gets you a lesser sentence than murder but what if you did that crime against 10,000 people?
