+69 Because of the laws of energy conservation all the energy that becomes heat technically makes the earth a giant slow cooker. amirite?

The heat from solar radiation gets emitted back out into space as infrared radiation. That heat leaves earth almost as fast as it enters. The reason carbon accumulation in the atmosphere is a problem is it slows the rate that infrared radiation is able to pump the heat back out. So, our current problem is that 99.99% (or something like that) of heat is being pumped back out, rather than 100%.

A very very very slow cooker

Welcome to entropy and the eventual heat death of the universe.

isn't heat death about the universe becoming so big that the average energy per volume of space is insufficient anywhere in the universe to sustain life?

So, it's more like a giant slow freezer...

More like a dehydrator

He is saying the opposite He says the Earth is a giant slow cooker but he doesn't realize that the energy radiates through space and is "lost"

Actually I do, heat is also lost through the slow cooker out into the air

Looks like Mother Nature is preparing us a stew—let's hope she remembers the seasoning!

If Earth is a slow cooker, I'm definitely the ingredient that's taking way too long to get tender!

Great, now I have to worry about global warming AND my dinner being overcooked! Thanks, science!
