What's the science in writing a computer program? People who write the programs don't need to know science any more than a writer who is is writing a book needs to know the science of how paper is made.

No, you don't need to know how computers operate to write a computer program. Someone who drives a truck for work is not working in technology.

Are you deliberately ignoring entire fields of math and computation science? Software is not written in plain text. The methodology of transforming plain text description into software is science. Algebra is science, I am almost sure about that. Data science is also science, even if it's also a meme.

No one describes a construction design consultancy as a technology company. I know that not all technology is software, that's part of my point. I am saying that software is not technology.

Sounds like you are baiting and confusing yourself over a physical tech product versus software as a service

I have to disagree but I can see where this frustraion comes from, especially with a lot of devs having this superioirty complex to the rest of the tech industry. I myself like you am a mechanical engineer who codes and programs when needed. My buddy who is a very skilled software engineer can be an awful prick if we get him talking about work. Our friend group consists mostly of successful engineers. 1 mech, 1 aero, 2 software and 1 QS

Writing is technology, agriculture is technology, software development is technology. I think your personal definition of technology is too limited. early 17th century: from Greek tekhnologia ‘systematic treatment', from tekhnē ‘art, craft' + -logia

Maybe don't bring this up at a party. I get it (not really the specific point but the idea of being frustrated when people use terms inaccurately) but most people aren't going to care and it may come off a little presumptuous.

They are also straight up wrong in this case so they may also look foolish.
