+84 Cosmic Crisp apples are awful. The hype for them is unfounded. amirite?

by ebbahagenes 2 days ago

The dirt flavored ones were bought years ago. I figured it was just a bad crop. This time they tasted fine, just underwhelming considering people say they're amazing. I don't know, apparently apples are obscure.

Yeah the bitter ones I had were from a couple of years ago as well. I do agree with you though that even at their best the cosmic crisp are overrated, and since I had that one bad experience I won't ever buy a bushel again and risk getting a bad batch, I'll just stick with Fuji, Empire or Honeycrisp.

It's probably one of the few varieties with a PR department.

A $10m campaign. They were really trying to sell it.

I'm big on Envy apples at the moment

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Envy is pretty good, too.

I'm a huge fan of Cosmic Crisp. But like any apple, some are better than others.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Gotcha. Well, I'm not arguing. We like what we like. Sorry the Cosmic is a bummer for you. :-)

this is just an opinion...

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Right. In "unpopular opinions"…

I don't think it's all that obscure? Do you not eat apples?

by Potential_Way 2 days ago

The apple community is small, apparently.

what is unpopular about not liking a certain type of apple?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I never even heard about them.

by Leonorabins 2 days ago

Well I just heard about them 2 min ago, so you're ahead of me.

It's a cross of the Enterprise and Honeycrisp. It was a big project at Washington State University. They put a lot of work into it. I'm just not a fan.

by ebbahagenes 2 days ago

Okay, an American thing.

by Leonorabins 2 days ago

Something like 30% of the apples grown in the U.S. are exported to other countries, so like other produce that is exported, it's not really just an American thing because of global trade. But it's possible it has a different name in the country that imports it!

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'm pretty sure they export them.

by ebbahagenes 2 days ago

Ah, I forgot. "Here" is the only other place that exists other than America. My bad, bro.

I prefer Honeycrisps to Cosmic, but where I live the Honeys are more expensive than Cosmic, and by quite a bit. It sucketh mightily, it do.

I bought organic honey crisp apples from Publix last week and paid nine dollars for three of them. Never again.

by Possible_Rutabaga 1 day ago

Organic will hit you right in the wallet. Use the self checkout and lie. It's regular ol' produce, not the fancy stuff.

Apples in general are highly overrated

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Kind of a basic fruit. Wouldn't necessarily call them overrated, though.
