-72 Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't disappear into his roles. I feel like I'm watching him act as these characters not be them. amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You feel like Keanu Reeves disappears into his characters? I love the guy but no.

by paulakirlin 2 days ago

What are you talking about? Keanu has tremendous range and is unrecognizable immersed so deep in these roles: Parenthood - clueless stoner boyfriend guy Bill & Ted - clueless stoner time-traveler guy Point Break - clueless stoner Quarterback FBI surfer guy Dracula - clueless stoner bad-accent guy Speed - clueless stoner bus-saves-the-day guy The Matrix - clueless stoner chosen-one kung-fu guy The Replacements - clueless stoner Quarterback (again) guy John Wick - clueless stoner dog-revenge assassin guy

He was great in Hardball

Clueless stoner gambling addict guy 🤣🤣

Don't forget My Own Private Idaho - mayor's straight son who sleeps with men for money

I would feel really bad for him if he's not a stoner and is… just…

You're gonna leave the Devils Advocate off his list of masterpieces?

You mean Deadpool plays a great Ryan Renolds

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I was reading, got to Christian Bale and I was like hmm ok go on and then OP hits us with Keanu Reeves 🤣

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Driva, how much fawtha to the castle?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I absolutely adore Keanu but jesus he really is not a good actor and I've watched EVERYTHING he's ever been in. He is The least terrible as Neo and Constantine.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Before John wick came out Keanu Reeves was basically the face of bad acting.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I have a Keanu collection! I love him but come on

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Man. He's a master of his craft. I could honestly get lost in his work.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Dunno that anyone has described Keanu as a good actor?

by Temporary-Jacket3081 2 days ago

What if I crash through the window?

by SectionImportant7777 2 days ago

Movie Constantine begs to differ.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

He wss exactly the same in Constantine as John Wick lmao. Come on dude. Excellent movie but he's just being himself.

by cyrus38 2 days ago

Nah his acting just works better with Constantine as a character.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The truly unpopular opinion here is that Keanu Reeves disappears into his roles. I felt like he played John Wick just like he did Ted and literally every other role he's ever done.

by Small_Imagination404 2 days ago

Seconded. Keanu is Ted in every movie.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

One time he tried acting and it was in Dracula and it didn't work out so well for him

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Devils advocate is some of the worst accent work I've ever heard. Epically terrible Florida accent

by Responsible-Tune7988 2 days ago

I think Keanu is just ted in real life

by Anonymous 2 days ago

If you think Keanu Reeves disappears into his roles and Leo doesn't, you probably need to improve your media literacy. I love Keanu but he is FAMOUSLY not a great character actor.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Whoa...how dare you.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Or Basketball Dairies

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Leo's role in Killers of the Flower moon was another one where he plays a very not so bright, and uncharismatic character, unlike many of his other more popular roles. He did a great job not looking like the stud most people recognize him as, just another ordinary guy

by Live_Reflection1661 2 days ago

Shutter island, blood diamond

by Broderick24 2 days ago

Yep this is the movie that shows his talents. When actors blow up and become S tier they are paid to be characatures of themselves. Like Deniro, Pacino, Jack nicolson, and Amy Schumer.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yep this is the movie that shows his talents. When actors blow up and become S tier they are paid to be characatures of themselves. Like Deniro, Pacino, Jack nicolson, Totally, really common as time goes on. and Amy Schumer. Wait, what? lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

She did blow up for a hot minute. Not that it was deserved.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Ah yes. The legendary actors Deniro, Pacino, Nicolson, and Schumer. Put them on the Mount Rushmore of hollywood.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Damn I forgot about that part..

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I honestly think you may have a bias

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The bias is called this is a very famous person and because I literally can recognize their face I think I can "see through" their acting.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You nailed it haha. People really think "if I can recognize who this is (and they're not someone I like), they haven't disappeared into their role"

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Keanu Reeves disappears into character?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You lost me at Keanu Reeves

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I think you meant Gary Oldman when you wrote Keanu Reeves.

by eunahowe 2 days ago

That's still better than Ben affleck being Ben affleck.

by Large_Response1939 2 days ago

Blood diamonds he was great

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Wolf of Wall Street too.

by Hot_Challenge 2 days ago

James Franco is the same

by Joanny92 2 days ago

Have you seen The Revenant?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The thing with leo is: he always plays actors. Most of his roles are con men or gangsters that need to pretend a lot. Or as nolan calls it in inception: Mr. Charles.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You really tried to slide in Keanu Reeves lol. You don't have to watch movies to see that's he's not a good actor. He's got a great deadpan face, but that's really all he has.

by cornelius80 2 days ago

This and aura. He is very mediocre actor with great charisma

by Old-Weather 2 days ago

Nicolas Cage is a better actor than Leonardo DiCaprio. Leo couldn't do Con Air, but Nicolas Cage could do The Revenant.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Cage in Con Air is the worst accent in the history of film.

by Sipescornelius 2 days ago

The departed would've been absolute garbage with Nicolas Cage

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The departed with nick cage is a classic

by Responsible-Tune7988 2 days ago

LOL. Keanu Reeves Sit down.

by Various_Visual3986 2 days ago

Has Keanu Reeves played as anyone other than Keanu Reeves?

by Ayanahowe 2 days ago

Leonardo isn't meant to be an "immersive" actor. Hes more like Denzel Washington in that his charisma alone makes him appealing to watch in many different roles

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I agree, and for however weird his personal life is it always seems to me Johnny Depp is the only one out there who disappears into character. Often with elaborate costuming of course but the accents, the attitude, the mannerisms. The variety of characters he has played is remarkable IMO. I cannot think of anyone else who comes close.

by gislasonjonas 2 days ago

Gatsby and Jack Dawson are kind of similar characters (not in wealth obvs), and I think he played them very differently and believable.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I feel like the real conversation here should be that Leo is a boarder line pedophile. Oh and that we all love Kanu but that man cannot act

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I was somewhat on board before I got to the part about Keanu. His acting is so stiff. He's the same guy in almost every role with a few rare exceptions. No one's watching John Wick for the incredible acting performances that's for sure.

by Horror-Type-1476 2 days ago

Keanu Reeves?! You instantly lost all credibility with this statement. Keanu Reeves plays Keanu Reeves, and that's why we love him. Leo is a quality character actor, will be remembered as one of the great of his generation.

by Euphoric_Moment7702 2 days ago

Keanu lmao

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I would agree if you didn't use Keanu as your example of someone who disappears into a role.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Bringing up Keanu lost your argument lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's how I feel about Emma Stone. I only see Emma Stone.

by PresenceNo6341 2 days ago

I agree. I don't dislike the guy, but I don't think his good movies are good, simply because he's in them. He is good at choosing good roles.

by Temporary-Jacket3081 2 days ago

I'm sorry, Keanu??? Lol. I love the guy but to say he disappears into his roles pretty much invalidates your opinion on acting.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'll mostly agree, with the exception of Calvin Candie. I forgot it was decaprio for most of that movie

by Anonymous 2 days ago

With Keanu you can do it but not with Leo? Tf? We give Keanu a pass as a bad actor because he is a beautiful human.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's how I feel with DDL.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Keanu Reeves? that's all I need to understand you know nothing about movies lmao I love Keanu, but he literally just plays himself on every single movie he has ever been in

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Careful now, thems fightin words

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Will Smith is someone who I would describe as someone who plays himself in *Insert universe/ scenario*

by Delicious_Frame 2 days ago

I'm conflicted. I've always held similar unpopular opinions about DiCaprio, but you saying Keanu disappears into his characters is unfathomable to me. That's the bigger unpopular opinion if you ask me.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'd like him to show more range and be in a comedy or marvel movie

by reginaldnicolas 2 days ago

Lol yeah cuz a marvel movie is filled with range!

by Anonymous 2 days ago

perfectly put.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

He used to. But yeah, I feel the same way. Same with Keanu, too.

by SufficientNews3188 2 days ago

Man in the Iron Mask was the only time it felt like he was acting

by Miserable_Try5885 2 days ago

…Keanu is your example of an immersive actor?

by Exotic-Research 2 days ago

Leo isn't quite a character actor like, say, Johnny Depp, but I would argue he is pretty good at getting into his role. His work in Jango Unchained was pretty amazing, even though I know he said it made him quite uncomfortable. Also Keanu is never not Keanu… that is a horrible example. 😭

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I liked him in Shudder Island, but otherwise yeah. I feel like actors become too recognizable after a point and it's impossible to suspend belief enough to see them as anything but a character

by rodgerjaskolski 2 days ago

How do you people not understand that the point of A list movie stars is that they're very good at being very good at being themselves?

by Mantethurman 2 days ago

Huh?

by CommunicationAny6693 2 days ago

I think he fits a specific role but I totally agree that it's just Leo

by Real-Evening123 2 days ago

You're describing a movie star. People don't go to his movies to see someone else. They go to see Leo. Compared with say Daniel Day Lewis, who is most definitely not a movie "star" but is able to disappear into roles. Even great actors like Denzel Washington. He's Denzel no matter what movie it is. Same with Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise. They achieved that level of success where they're cast specifically because they are great actors that can't disappear into a role.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

This is 100% an opinion formed because "Everyone always says this thing is true, but I'm different/better than everyone else so I don't think the same thing". Pretty much proven by picking one of the best actors of this generation, and then comparing him to objectively lesser actors that have the same issues OP is talking about, but in lesser roles.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

yea I disagree. when I walk in the room and he has a monologue going, I get sucked right in lol I wanna rewind the entire movie

by Top-Recognition-2959 2 days ago

There are like 5-10 actors who legitimately and consistently disappear into roles.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Bale I get but Reeves????

by Pure_Body 2 days ago

I have that with Michael b Jordan, he must be the worst actor. Anything he does, I just see him trying. It's especially bad when it's a movie with a great cast like Sinners. I don't believe him anything, especially tough guy roles.

by Broderick24 1 day ago

Shutter Island disagrees with you.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

In what world is Keanu a better actor in any way, shape or form than Leo? Lol

by Prestigious-Buy 1 day ago

I think he's very good at acting naturalistic and is good at showing emotion and stuff, but he doesn't have the chops to be a chameleon the way some others like Bale do.

by Deanlegros 1 day ago

If you were describing Tommy Lee Jones, I might agree. But not with Leo.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Tommy Lee Jones is a good one. He picks his movies extremely well. But kinda just does his same shtick. The Fugitive was the same character as No Country For Old Men. And was the same as the role he did as the cheerleader coach. Its funny. It works.

by cyrus38 1 day ago

I've never seen a single thing with him in it, even Titanic. Same with most big actors actually. Usually because they're known for their dramatic rolls and I just want a good comedy. Give me Melissa McCarthy any day.

by boylealfred 1 day ago
