Woody Guthrie's antifascism was nothing but performative, amirite?

People who think the world is black and white are truly exhausting, and they're also dime a dozen on the internet.

That would usually work if ww2 wasn't one of the most black and white wars ever and him pretending to be a crusader against fascism when he wasn't at the beginning and then hides when called to action

Refusing and being any meaningful anti-fascist action (lend leasing, actually fighting) and still referring to yourself as a antifascist is absurdity especially when you defend moves made by fascist (invasion of Poland)
by Anonymous2 days ago
Why is killing the only way you can think of to be meaningfully opposed to fascism?
by Anonymous2 days ago
When you have "this machine kills fascist" on your guitar and you've never killed a fascist even when you're nation is at war with them it's extremely performative and not only that but being vocally against actions that will hurt fascist nations in peace times
by Anonymous2 days ago
The point is that there's more than one way to "kill" fascists.
by Anonymous2 days ago
You can't be a pacifist and a hard line Stalinist (which Guthrie) and publicly support the invasion of Poland, Baltics, and Finland which he did

So he didnt kill anyone but was highly influential. Fine by me.

So it's fine if someone drags their feet on opposing something evil if they were influential by the end of things?
by Anonymous2 days ago
Not it's fine to oppose something evil in different ways than enlisting into a lesser evil.

except that he didn't oppose the evil until the evil came for his favorite dictator

I highly value performances. They have symbolic power, even when they are not sincere (which wasn't the case with Woody)
