+75 You shouldn't make fun of a persons appearance even if they're awful, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Feels like it makes a lot more sense to call out the things that make them a terrible human being instead since that's the stuff that actually means something...

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah any time people joke about evil politicians or celebrities' appearance they need to remember that the evil politician/celebrity will likely never hear or be effected by it, but someone else who was self conscious about that same aspect of their own appearance (weight, height, hair, or anything else) will be hit by it. Make fun of a celebrity for going bald and they won't hear it or care, but some guy losing his hairline will think people feel the same way about him.

by Inner_Bench_1192 2 days ago

A..ha... Now we've gotten to why it's a problem to mock the physical traits of even the terrible people... The impact on the rest of the community that share that trait...

Uh, what?

yeah, it's almost like they think because they are "ugly" it makes them even worse for whatever they did. so superficial.

by jaronlockman 2 days ago

i noticed that too, people really get angry at ugly people and it's so confusing, like why is them being ugly such a trigger for you? it's the same with people who get mad at alt people and frame them as dumb just cuz they think they look ugly, sure they might be ugly and it's not a bad thing unless you make it out to be as such

Cognitive biases everywhere lol, sometimes I feel like we've never really separated from our ape ancestors, just lost the fur

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Even worse is when they use a persons appearance as a reason for their actions. "Oh hes short and insecure about it, thats why he treats women horribly" No, hes just a misogynist. Hold people accountable for their actions and dont point out their appearance as if its a reason.

by Runtedevyn 2 days ago

Yup, people always somehow land on the appearance, it's really getting old. I suppose it's only natural given how superficial our society is in general...

I mean that's lowkey funny ngl

Some people just dont appreciate comedy

by Neither-You-2152 2 days ago

Some people are too sensitive to understand what comedy is and that's sad for them

I agree, my pet peeve, and this is coming from a fat man is the sensitivity towards obese people, but the lack of respect towards short men or homely people. It genuinely pisses me off short dude to get picked on for being short all the time, but if you call a fat person fat everybody throws a fit. If you're fat as your fault and you can change it, but it's not OK to poke fun but it is OK if they're Fugly or short such a bizarre concept to me.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I agree. Although I think that even if you can change being fat, you still shouldn't be made fun for your appearance. But it really is ridiculous how people make fun of others for things they just can't change, or need a lot of money, pain, and time to change. Like, I'm a hairy guy, and sometimes I get really conscious, especially when I hear people calling other people like me "Chewbacca" lol...People born without an abnormal amount of body hair don't know how lucky they are sometimes i swear haha...

Honestly, this reads as if you want to be able to insult "fat people" as well. That aside - a ton of people think it's okay to bully overweight people, especially women. Same as short guys. Generally it seems to be weirdly socially accepted to simply bully people based on their appearance. Women can give you countless examples, me included.

by Low_Corner_1053 2 days ago

And I do agree a ton of people do you think it's OK to bully overweight people but 1 million times more percent people think it's OK to bully short men their own peers will tease them as well as potential partners. You don't see any obese women getting teased by their friends or getting actively insulted without shame.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

you a good guy but there's only a handful of things people shouldn't joke about and being short (fat whatever) isn't one of 'em. And I'm only 167 cm, like 5'6

by reginaldtillman 2 days ago

I get where you're coming from but obesity should not be categorized the same if I see a commercial for shoe risers for short men, it's identically humiliating as a diaper commercial for grown man where as we've been sold, the belief that fat is beautiful and appreciate all body types It's a borderline hate crime at this point and those people offended just eat too much food. I'm saying this is someone that was obese until my 30s and lost 130 pounds people are fat out of convenience. People are short out of genetics and it can't be changed. They are entirely differentin the status quo that exists around obesity should cease to.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You guys can call me an asshole but I am once again fat I gained 80 pounds back of the 130 I lost but guess what that's my fault you got fat lazy and ate a lot but he feel bad for pointing out my lack of effort, but less mad about pointing out somebody's default genetics. They can't be changed just doesn't make sense.

If you have nothing nice to say. Say nothing at all.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

And like, name-calling doesn't make your argument more valid. Lol

by Federal-Factor-7657 2 days ago

i always say that nobody really gets to decide these things, like if you're saying it's ok to make fun of someone's appearance just because they're a bad person, who gets to decide that? where is that line exactly? that's just with anything that people know is bad or immoral and justify doing it for "exceptions"

by alberta52 2 days ago

The problem with much of the world is that people feel it's justifiable to treat people immorally based on their own version of morality. It's pretty ironic really. Morality justifies immoral behavior.

You can make fun of people for how they choose to look. Its mean to make fun of people for how they are forced to look.

by Due-Departure 2 days ago

Your looks are your life and im sure deep down everyone knows that

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's not the point. I'm not suggesting that lookism doesn't exist and thrive within our society, of course looks matter. Looks will always matter and people will always be biased towards the good looking individuals, that's just the truth of our world. But that doesn't mean that we should just make fun of people who don't fit the beauty standards. Those two are completely unrelated.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Sure, but also look at Elon Musk. How can you not?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

it's kinda weird to choose the one thing that doesn't relate to his actions for making fun of
