+55 If money weren't an issue, the United States would be the best place to live, amirite?

by Brilliant-Breath1624 2 days ago

With enough money anywhere is good to be.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Obviously. But being a billionaire in Switzerland is better than being a billionaire in Bangladesh

by Brilliant-Breath1624 2 days ago

And being a billionaire in Switzerland (and lots of places) is better than being a billionaire in the US, just personally speaking. I don't want to risk being shot at.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

So you pick a country with mandatory gun ownership?

by Swaniawskitravo 2 days ago

There's no mandatory gun ownership in Switzerland lol. It's true though that Switzerland has one of the highest guns per capita rate in the world. But unlike the US, most Swiss gun owners have been properly trained with guns as they served in the army. Victims of gun violence are magbitutes lower in Switzerland compared to the US.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

If that's the only criticism you have of living in the US you're incredibly sheltered. Unfortunately a gun in my presence is the least of terrible things I've been through stateside

by Useful-Landscape 2 days ago

I don't think it is, and I think I explained myself pretty well on why in the OP

by Brilliant-Breath1624 2 days ago

Nah, you missed a lot. Your assumption on best healthcare is just wrong on technology, access and for women in particular and innovative procedures can be more accessible due to less red tape. This is wh pro athletes head to Germany, Mexico, Asia and why medical tourism exists. Wealth doesn't shield you from violence and the wealthy choose to build and live elsewhere in many many cases. As for tech, I am living there not making it…Asia vs US is an argument about innovation not about living in a location and having access. I can get the tech I want anywhere …in fact bc of US politics I have access to more tech and healthcare options elsewhere. While Senators argue about whether Singapore is a country, I'll buy a more advanced huaweii phone. Good luck

by Blakekling 2 days ago

Let me guess. Never been to Switzerland?

by Ornery-Vanilla 2 days ago

I dont think you did. Big problem is USA as a culture, is repellent to many. So that's a non starter. But health care is in fact not the best. It's actually quite poor quality. Food variety is in no way unique to USA, you just think that because you live in the USA bubble. And as you say, quality is poor. Weather options apply elsewhere Violence and crime is a big deal. Having to shield yourself from it using wealth isn't appealing when you can just enjoy life without personal security and staying in your enclave in any decent country What's technology got to do with anything? You think you can't get the sane tech everywhere? In fact in day to day use the USA is well behind. Your banking tech is decades behind so you lack convenience for payments and easy money transfer. Education in the USA might be OK if you pay for it, but as acricjvperson, I've already done that. I don't need more schooling and good education is found elsewhere anyway. In fact people who do exchange at USA college often report hiwceasy it is as people cover what high-school did at home. I suspect grade inflation hides the truth Then the big one. Culture. A terrible culture that elects career fraudsters and sex offenders as their leader and hero? That still has huge amounts of what to the outside view is insanely backwards religious extremism? Just everything going on right now? No thanks. You really could not pay me to live there.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

If you are a billionaire, you are a problem either way.

by Watersalanna 2 days ago

Interesting. Even if you donate millions to good causes?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It would be nice, most don't.

by Watersalanna 2 days ago

And someone that does, are they also a problem? You made kind of a broad statement there bud

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Interesting point of view

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I wish I was wrong.

by Watersalanna 2 days ago

Ya but at the end of the day you'd still have to live in Bangladesh lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Billionaires are another level, but as a millionaire you could live in Bangladesh like a King. Not in the US.

by Grantmraz 2 days ago

Yes, oligarchies are pretty swell places for rich dickheads. Not exactly a surprise, is it?

by Limp_Length9628 2 days ago

Which country doesn't have a selfish upper-crust/politicians? What country doesn't have selfish people all the way up and down the economic landscape?

by Sipesramiro 2 days ago

I don't mean politicians, I mean the fabric of society itself, or the culture itself. It feels like "every man for himself" which feels wrong to me personally.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Thanks

by Brilliant-Breath1624 2 days ago

If money weren't an issue, I still wouldn't want to live in the US. Thailand or maybe Costa Rica for me.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I've been to Thailand on vacation. Best vacation I have ever had, but living there permanently will get old

by Brilliant-Breath1624 2 days ago

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. To each their own. It wouldn't get old for me.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I get you sunshine, nowhere is perfect. But with money not being a factor, I'll take my sunshine, beaches, and jungles in Thailand over constant stress, traffic, and mass shootings in the US any day.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Cheers pal. I'll be sipping a coconut on a beach while reading about your latest mass shooting.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Are you American? If not, fair enough, if so... Hate to tell ya but if I couldn't live in Aus anymore and had to choose Thailand or American, Thailand all the way.

by jailyn60 2 days ago

Money is the reason the US isn't the best place to live. The people in the US are being milked like cattle so that the rich can stay rich. There's no real way of getting round this in the US.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

US PPP per capita is still higher than much of western Europe.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How does that negate my claim? If anything, you are probably proving my point

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

Money is literally the key to almost anything regardless of where you are. Sadly even laws can bend with enough money so you can, pretty much, do whatever you want.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

True, but being rich in a first-world country is significantly better than being rich in a country like Bangladesh

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

if i had money id leave the US☹️

Your unpopular opinion is that having money makes life better?

by Shaina00 1 day ago

No

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

Well duh! You can't say it is the best place to be if you actually look at the downsides.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Op ignore a lot and was wrong on some .

by Blakekling 1 day ago

But not those with money they are probably getting w better deal with it so he's kinda right

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not if you have enough money. You can't say politics is not heavily connected with money

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

If I was rich enough to buy politics, I don't think it matters where I live.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I think he means that if money werent an issue for someone they wouldn't care about politics

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They're white, aren't they?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If they're voting for Trump as doctors, they're people who proudly don't care about the well-being of people. They can't excuse their horrid beliefs with ignorance when it's their job.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I feel like for anyone but extremely rich, not just a confident upper middle class, it's better to find a uni in Europe than in the US

by Past-Grab-5679 1 day ago

The US has some of the best universities in the world. There are studies that confirm this. Not saying that the universities in Europe suck, they obviously don't, but the US has better universities. Especially if we are taking quantity into account

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

• Education: lmao, your voting results tell a different story • Food: I wouldnt feed a pig with that stuff • Healthcare: dont know • Nature: true • Weather: Options - wildfires, tornados and floods !? • Technology: what technology besides military is the us leading? • Violence: A real problem, but wealth shields you from much of its impact - so like in every country?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Right?! We're trailing behind in education, our food is "just deep fry it and hope it's good", even if you're rich, unless you're Bezo level of rich, getting cancer will still destroy your bank account.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Food: Maybe not #1 globally, but in terms of variety and quality, the US is hard to beat. Ah yes that's why you have obesity epidemic lol

by Lorenzajast 1 day ago

Completely irrelevant to my point. It is a fact that the US has some of the best restaurants in the world

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

Completely relevant to your point as you said food not restaurants lmao

by Lorenzajast 1 day ago

Canada may not be perfect but it's sure better than the USA.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The weather sucks, and it's boring

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

If money weren't an issue, lots of places would be the best place to live

by Lenora40 1 day ago

Except the god awful public transit and the gradually more and more surveillant and authoritarian and overall just evil government

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yes, if you're rich to the point where money is not a concern, US is one of the best places in the world to live. No one disagrees with that. Which part of this is controversial?

by Ornery-Vanilla 1 day ago

Have you read the replies I am getting?

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

Now I did. Majority seems to agree with me. What's your point?

by Ornery-Vanilla 1 day ago

The food? Thats something americans believe. Spend weeks roadtriping USA and I was seriously underwhelmed. Sorry, but Prague has better food scene and its not even known for it.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Agreed, I was surprised how poor the food was. And the service too. I was told that the US had amazing service because they have to work for it. Service was generally average.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You speak like someone that's never left their hometown.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I am not even an American

by Brilliant-Breath1624 1 day ago

So your entire premise is based on "I heard from a guy that heard from a guy that heard from a guy"? I hear Mars is lovely this time of year.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I think our cavalier attitude towards spraying chemicals banned in every other 1st world country is a big downside. Our food is poisoned be default. Even if you use the argument that you can buy organic or have staff to grow things for you - it doesn't change the fact that our land is coated in endocrine disrupting chemicals. We also allow homeowners to go out and buy without restriction. I once saw a city worker with a huge drum full of herbicide spraying it with a garden hose. It was a small strip of weeds on the road and as I drove by.

by gutkowskisandri 1 day ago

Poverty income in the US is above the average income in Russia and a lot of other countries, so we have to keep these things in context. But yes, money-printing has caused inflation which messes up people's savings and ability to live.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'd rather be poor here than rich anywhere else

by Swaniawskitravo 1 day ago

Education- not great Food- also not great Healthcare-yes oke, IF you can afford it Nature-being ruined in front of your eyes as we speak. Not gonna be nice in most places for much longer. Weather- either on fire or massively flooding Technology-falling way behind, and the tech you do have is incredibly harmful. Violence-yes they is also definitely lots of this

by langworthjana 1 day ago

There are a few gigantic issues: - Cities are ugly, dirty and car focused - It's so dangerous compared to other 1st world countries. From school shooters, to homicides, to gangs, to drug wars, etc. etc. If you discount Lithuania, Turkey and Latvia there is no STATE with a lower homicide rate than every other EU country/Japan/Korea. And the populated states are more dangerous, by a larger margin, than the countries I mentioned. - Food lacks authenticity unless you search deep. I'll give you that variety is there but ingredient quality definitely isn't (bread is the greatest example of this) and because of that food suffers. - Worst of all, politics are just abysmally bad compared to other countries and there is a loooot of hate going around. I agree that a lot of your points are really good and the US would be a great country to live for sure, but, why not just live in the EU? I have far more diversity in culture, I have all the diversity and beautiful weather, better food that is just as diverse, great healthcare since I can go to any european country, better politics and great education programs (way better high school for sure xD). Comparing several countries to one isn't fair but EU has freedom of movement so if I live in like Germany I can still go to Switzerland for snow/natural parks, Spain for the beaches, France for the castles and plains. And these are all closer than they are in the US Sorry but I disagree, I would not choose the US even if money wasn't the issue.

by FlatwormMaleficent 1 day ago

If I was super rich I'd only visit America for holidays. Prob buy some homes to rent out too. I'd rather live in places like Switzerland, Singapore, Japan, Norway or Canada.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm in the US and this is exactly how I feel about California lol. I'd love to live there but only if I have the income to make it fun. Lived in a hcol area in college and it was poverty with a view. So many amazing things to do but you're just scraping by not able to participate. I like lots of places but I do think the US is pretty badass for a lot of people. If you can't make it here what makes people think they'd be more competitive in another country? Idk been drinking rant over

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Violence: A real problem, but wealth shields you from much of its impact. I'd argue it makes you more of a target in many cases. Luigi anyone?

by Melyssa72 1 day ago

Most countries in the world are great if you have money. So what?

by Grantmraz 1 day ago

I agree with you. most issues people complain about in the US are even more prevelant across the world

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Being poor in the US is arguably one of the best places to be poor in

by abrahamwhite 1 day ago

the US is the best place to earn money, no?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Apologies, I assumed I was talking to an adult, I now see I was mistaken

by Lenora40 1 day ago

If you are the result of its education system then it can't be first in everything. Apologize for the diss but this is just a delusional take lol

by Sea_Masterpiece 1 day ago

Lol well deserved. He wants people's opinions, been told time and time again people disagree, but still cant fathom that his world view isnt their world view yet and some of his "facts" are, indeed, falsely held opinions

by jailyn60 1 day ago

This isn't unpopular lol. The United States IS the best country to live in if you have money

by Whole-Cabinet 1 day ago

Even better if you don't have money
