+47 Winter is the real meat grilling season, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Grilling in winter can be fun, but there's just something about the smell of smoked meat and a heavily chlorinated pool that just feels right in my soul.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'll try this in a couple months. Thanks for the tip!

Autumn. Sure you might have some OK weather in parts of winter (depending on where you live) but fall is really the time to be outside and grill.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

This concept kind of hinges on your winter climate, though - right? Some Midwest states in February are just not practical for outdoor grilling…

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I mean in Spain there are colder regions but most traditional grilling is in winter here even with the cold.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

As someone who lives in the upper Midwest. It's isn't feasible to grill in January-February sometimes well into March because our temps can get down to -38°F before windchill and windchill can push it into the -50°Fs range if not even colder. Believe me it's not safe nor smart to grill in that weather in fact most of the time you're lucky if your car starts in that weather.

Then you guys don't have winter, just summer and cold summer.

by Small_Low 2 days ago

Our winter is just autumn in January and spring in February

by Anonymous 2 days ago

We know that, people are sharing what it's like in other places that are not where you live.

by baby79 2 days ago

Sorry, I meant of my country not of another places :(

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah, that's totally different than when there's 3 ft of snow and it would literally take 45 minutes of work just to shovel around the grill and get the grill ready and then you've got to stand in -20° C weather while it's windy and snowy to check on the meats or whatever you're grilling...

by baby79 2 days ago

What do you consider cold in Spain?

by Pleasant_Rush_500 2 days ago

In the coast is at least 15-10C depending on humidity and in the interior ≥+5C

by Anonymous 2 days ago

So still above freezing? Lol Your winter climate is literally the temperature it gets to in the summer in the evenings on some nights around where I live.

by baby79 2 days ago

There are parts that do freeze, but it's normally not that heavy, and in mountainous cities like Granada or mesetarian like Segovia or Toledo, but it's normally light and snow is only normal in towns at high altitude.

Ahh i figured you lived somewhere warm. I imagine your winter is like our (southern ontario) fall, which is a great time to grill.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Everyday is a good day to grill. Doesn't matter the season or weather.

It's a lot more pleasant to grill in winter lol I agree with you. People just don't like being cold. Personally I hate sweating way more and much prefer it. Similarly, I don't understand why so many people use hot tubs in summer. We use our hot tub and grill the most in winter with snow on the ground (obviously not right after a major blizzard or cold front). With the grilling, it also helps to have protection from wind in winter although we aren't doing it when there's a crazy wind chill. Very nice to go inside with freshly grilled steaks or pork chops and veggies and start a fire.

My mom's last boyfriend grilled more in the winter more than he did in the summer. The heat from the grill kept him warm and there were no bugs.

I agree, but my primary reason for grilling in the summer is to avoid turning on my oven and heating up the inside of my house.

I do love grilling in the winter

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I went to the store to buy stuff to grill when it snowed once and everyone of my neighbors were freaking out thinking my place was on fire.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It's on my patio, I get out turn it on and go back inside. Temp doesn't matter

by Anonymous 1 day ago

+30, -30, and everything in between.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Also I think the "grilling" during the summer is popular because you do it outside. No need to turn an oven on,making your house warmer. Personally, autumn smoking of meats while watching college football is the best.

I grill year round. Fall is honestly my favorite. This a good unpopular opinion

When I was a kid they would grill at the ski hill. I still grill throughout the winter. It has a different smell in the winter, no bugs too.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I too love grilling in the winter, but to be fair, it doesn't get very cold in LA

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yea, that isn't going to fly in MN with -10 + wind chill. I bbq a turkey every year for Thanksgiving. Depending on the weather anything later than that the grill can't keep up without a fireblanket. Plus putting on 4 layers of clothing and gloves to grill is not worth the effort.

by BeneficialNight 1 day ago

My grill is covered in snow 6 months out of the year tho lol

by mantequeen 1 day ago

Oh, I agree. My husband and I would grill as long as we can get it out of our garage.

You couldn't pay me to grill/ smoke anything during the summer. Labor day weekend is when grilling season starts for me.

As a Floridian, we treat summer the same way northerners treat winter. It's actively hostile to human life. Stay inside, catch up on movies, books, knitting, and start going outside on October and November. March and April end the decent season. I do all my smoking and grilling in winter, or at night if I can't avoid summer.

by Mundane-Finger 1 day ago

guys lets just grill all the time

by ImpressiveLong 1 day ago

Meat grilling should be all year long. There is no season.

by Few_Arrival_6393 1 day ago

I grill in the summer to avoid heating my house up. I cook indoors in the winter to heat my house up.

My dad grilled year-round in upstate NY, so I grill year-round. One time when I was like 14, he yelled to me from the backyard to bring him the ice pick and a hammer. I bring them to him outside and watch as he uses them to break the 3-4 inches of ice that has encased the grill. I say "Maybe it's too cold to grill." He responds "It's never too cold to grill." 40 years later, I still live by those words.
