+79 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of the most unfunny comedies I've ever watched, amirite?

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

Not every type of humor resonates with every person. Personally I think it's hilarious.

I think American humour can be hit and miss with me as a British person but there's some great stuff out there. I find south park hilarious.

I think American humour can be hit and miss with me as a British person but there's some great stuff out there. I feel the same way on the other side of things. There's some truly hilarious British humor out there, but some of it doesn't resonate.

by Maciward 2 days ago

Yes! Interestingly we have comedians in the UK who absolutely flopped because of their style but got very successful in the US, like John Oliver. And there are North American comedians who only found success in the UK like Katherine Ryan.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

Trey and Matt have said they were very influenced by British comedy in their younger years. A lot of that comes through in South Park.

by Brief_While6132 2 days ago

I didn't know that but it makes sense! I have never known any American show that hit as consistently with a British audience as South Park. Literally everyone I know loves it.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

You can find whatever you want to be funny but the British superiority complex over their comedy is so insufferable.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I never said British comedy was better. I literally just said I found South Park hilarious. Some comedy resonates even across that cultural barrier and some doesn't. I'm sure it's the same the other way around too.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

As an American I love the IT crowd, Blacks Books and Monty Python. I love the American Office but I just can't get the British Office. And I usually enjoy Ricky Gervais

You are entitled to your incorrect opinion

Thanks you too!

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

I've tried to watch the first episode several times but I just don't get it. I want to see Danny Devito, but I guess the show just isn't for me

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yes! My brain always goes 'Danny Devito is a funny man, I'll love this show' and then I have this moment of confusion as to why nothing he's doing is funny.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

You're right. They've made 17 seasons of it because it's not funny.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's never funny in Philadelphia

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Family Guy has 23 and it's not funny. Doesn't seem to be a requirement.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

What do you watch? The 12 episodes of Faulty Towers on repeat?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I watch a lot of South Park. I do think that American Dad has its funny moments. It is way ahead of Family Guy imo from a comedy standpoint.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

It's funny to someone. Not sure who, but they do exist.

by Equivalent-Time7496 2 days ago

I always assumed it was 14 year old boys

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

Terrible, terrible, terrible take. That show is outrageously funny

by Smithemilio 2 days ago

When does it get funny? I'm three seasons in.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

That's not far enough to declare the whole show unfunny lol

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Three seasons is absolutely enough to declare a show is bad.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

Sure, in a show with 4 seasons, Sunny has been going so long that the tone has dramatically shifted from the early seasons. Have you tried an episode from season 7? 11?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

You can't expect someone to watch a dozen seasons of a show they're hating in order to declare that they hate it. If they wanted me to watch seasons 7 or 11, they should have made seasons 1-3 good. That said I have watched clips of all the most popular bits online and I imagine some of them are from the more recent seasons.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

Sounds like you're committed to your opinion but I'm just saying, a show can fluctuate on quality without the whole thing being declared unfunny. If you don't wanna skip around that's up to you. There are certain later seasons I don't find funny but that's not enough for me to right off the whole show. SNL has a horrible track record of funny to unfunny sketches but it's highly regarded as being funny.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

SNL is a very weird one to me because it is SO inconsistent. There are some laugh out loud scenes on there but a lot of it is just dire. But I assume that's because they have to write an hour of comedy every week. A fully written and shot season of a show, you would expect to be more consistent.

by kariwilliamson 2 days ago

Yeah, SNL is largely not to my taste, but at this point I think people accept when it doesn't work because of what you said, they're working so quickly, and there have been a lot of successful sketches. With Sunny, like I said, the tone dramatically shifts throughout the seasons, I don't even go back to the early seasons anymore. I think the earliest one I watch regularly is five. Plus, that was the early 2000s and the humor was very different, especially "edgy" humor.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The show wouldn't work if it wasn't satirical. And the fact that the characters never win, makes up for how terrible they are. That said, if it's not for you that's okay, and if no one told you you're allowed to not like something, allow me: you're allowed.

by Crooksmagali 2 days ago

You're at Neglect Emotionally. After you Separate Entirely, you'll be right where the show wants you.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Okay, watch Frasier next.

by Daisyrenner 1 day ago

Is it a very similar or different comedy style?

by kariwilliamson 1 day ago

Very very different

by Brief_While6132 1 day ago

Similar only in the sense it is not funny.

by Daisyrenner 1 day ago

Have you seen big bang theory?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I have and I did not find it funny at all.

by kariwilliamson 1 day ago

if we were on a boat id make you watch…cuz of the implication

by Legal-Lemon 1 day ago

Yes that's one of the unfunny jokes that everyone always quotes!

by kariwilliamson 1 day ago

😂

by Legal-Lemon 1 day ago

Someone needs to be salted

by travis83 1 day ago

You all keep parroting unfunny jokes from this show at me.

by kariwilliamson 1 day ago

I really don't enjoy the Office US and I've never seen the Office UK. But I did enjoy Parks and Recreation which I felt had a different comedic style despite being such a similar format.

by kariwilliamson 1 day ago

Wow. I remember scoffing at the show until actually watching it, but I was hooked instantly. I'm actually not a big fan of comedy, and especially do I dislike the sitcom formula, but this one cracked me up and made my mouth drop. Just to be clear, they're all sociopaths. They only care about themselves, and to that end will turn on anyone and do anything for the pettiest of outcomes. Ego or greed fuels essentially all of their choices. And it's dark. It's terribly dark, with a massive juxtaposition in the musical score as well as the lighting/colouring. I respect that you don't like it. Maybe everything I said is super obvious, but you just don't find it funny, regardless. I remember Doug Stanhope hated it at first too, but then loved it. That's the only other negative thing I've heard about the program.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Yeah sometimes it feels like the show thinks its hilarious but it just ends up being awkward and cringy.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Big bang theory or Young Sheldon might be more up your alley

by Anonymous 1 day ago

What always sunny episodes did you see? There's just so many bangers

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The point isn't to argue the unpopular opinion. You're not going to sway anyone here.
