Tourists should pay higher than local residents when visiting other countries. amirite?

I mean, that's how it works in some countries. In Zimbabwe you can pay 3 different prices, the lowest for Zimbabweans themselves, a bit higher if you're from a neighbouring country (SADC), and a much higher rate if you're from further overseas. South Africa does the same with National Park entry fees.

I know. Just saying people come back and complain about it and think they're being scammed. I'm saying that's the way it should be.

Hmmm, only if there was a tax they could pay, like a lodging tax at a hotel or something… lol. Tourist do pay extra per day, to fund your streets and water and whatever else.

Not really an unpopular opinion considering the number of US cities that already charge a "hospitality tax"

Depends on how much is supporting a local economy where any flux in tourism greatly affects them, vs places doing just fine and charge more because they can.

They typically do. They're called "tourist traps" for a reason.

Tourists spend significantly more money than locals on average, so they're already paying more in taxes even when taxed at the same rate. Why do you particularly want to gouge them even more?

$5-10 is absolutely worth haggling over depending on where you are.
