In Demolition Man, Taco Bell was THE restaurant. We just got one in my city a few years ago. People lined up for hours to eat there. I still haven't.

How is this an unpopular opinion? People don't eat there because of the quality, it's quick and easy (though increasingly expensive). You can make a burger at home that's probably better than most fast food ones.

Its seriously base food that has no reason to be as popular as it is. All the food smells like soy and has next to no flavor. A couple years back I made a joke about McDonalds being lowbrow burgers and I got chewed out by people who apparently have refined palettes asking what was wrong with McDonalds 🤣

McDonald's is absolutely mid but I've had consistently worse experiences at other fast food places like Burger King and Wendy's despite their food generally tasting better. That's what makes McDonalds. It's not particularly good but it's rarely worse than expected.

It's food. If I have no time and I'm hungry I can get a fast $5 meal with predictable taste and quality. A lot more than I can say for some regular restaurants lately. It certainly doesn't have the worst food of any of my choices.

McDonalds doesn't sell the concept of having the best food. It sells the idea of having the most consistent experience every time. Name one time you ever got sick from eating McDonalds food. Heck, name one time anyone you know got sick on McDonalds food. It rarely happens. And even if it's not the tastiest burger ever, it will also never be the worst burger ever. A Big Mac always tastes the same no matter where you go. It is always a 6 or 7 out of 10, and never disappoints. People are risk-averse and they would usually rather have a consistently decent food eating experience than roll the dice at a different place and get either great food or awful food. Guaranteed decent food is more appealing.
