This isn't really an unpopular opinion at all. You just laid out the well established advantages of wired headphones. You prioritize those advantages. Okay. Wired headphones are still very popular for those reasons.

For me, I wear wired headphones because their cheaper and harder to lose. I don't want to carry around a set of hundred-dollar monopoly pieces.
by EmbarrassedDark90602 days ago
This is a well known thing ... unpredictable latency is also an issue when recording yourself against a background track.

Bluetooth headphones are a nice compromise where wires do more harm then good. You will never see someone in a recording studio wearing bluetooth headphones.
by Anonymous2 days ago
That is true. However for the vast majority of users who only listen to music while on the train to work etc, Bluetooth headphones are far superior just cause of how convenient they are.
by Anonymous2 days ago
For sound of course. I'm a landscaper and listen to music 8 hours a day. That would be a 12-hour day in just the time it would take me to plug my headphones back in every time they got snagged out.
by Best_Ant_42282 days ago
The sound difference is unnoticeable for the vast majority of users. Also, the more expensive Bluetooth headphones like Sony xm6 have technology to help them uncompress the signal making this difference even more unnoticeable. Unless your a musician the benefits of Bluetooth far outweigh wired earphones.

Not unpopular.

True

I work construction, I'm up and down ladders all day, crawling around in attics, digging, carrying all sorts of stuff, etc. I gave up on Bluetooth headphones a few years ago after losing mutable pairs, im on dirty job sites, one falls out of my ear, I'm never finding it again. I agree with all the analog advantages etc, but this is the reason I still use wired headphones. $10 sony ear buds from Amazon last me 4 or 5 months before they get crushed, destroyed, or wet, but I never lose them.

Counter-opinion: The benefits wired headphones provide are largely unimportant if you're not listening to music
by AdComplete2 days ago
For me the benefit is that they cost 10% of the price for the same or better audio quality.
by Amiehackett2 days ago
depends...for work i always go back to my old bose qc15. wired, anc (that uses an AAA battery). never fails. bluetooth always causes issues for me, not to mention most require an app to get installed on another device (phone) to manage the settings. the ultimate wireless device for me would be wireless (via 2.4GHZ) ANC headphones/earbuds.

Never mind that 99.9999% of people could never hear the difference in sound quality anyway. Especially when most of the wired headphones on the market aren't remotely capable of the dynamic range you'd need to hear the difference.
by Anonymous2 days ago
Yeah, no. My airpods are infinitely more convenient and I would never switch to wired. Same with over the ear headphones. I don't hear the difference and the practicality outweighs everything else.
by Anonymous1 day ago
I agree. Unfortunately there is something wrong with the charging port on my phone and it doesn't always register that I've plugged in anything down there. Not much of an issue if I'm sitting still but it makes walking with wired headphones impossible.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Same could be said about wired controllers, using Ethernet cable instead of WiFi, etc…
by Littelayana1 day ago
If i am not mistaken, current wireless controllers are in some cases actually faster then wired ones
by Anonymous1 day ago
I play games and I had your concerns when trying to go for wireless. Wireless via a dongle is really good but not widely available. My current headset uses low latency adaptive Bluetooth and pair it with a legendary Bluetooth transmitter and there is no notable delay even when I walk around the house. Audio quality is amazing because my headset is damn good and audio is compressed when streamed through Spotify anyway, and has a wired option to plug in. Audio quality via wired is only gonna be useful if you're listening to audio that has little to no compression like a professional. Your argument is fair but invalid if you find the right headphones and transmitter combo, given you're not a music producer.

I've really bern troubled by how many times my gf's call gets unintentionally cut when she touches those damn earbuds XD
by Anonymous1 day ago
Yeah some wireless stuff is really finecky I have a pair of basic earbuds that are quite annoying too lol
by Anonymous1 day ago
This is an incredibly basic opinion. You are stating facts and your personal preferences, but you are not actually advising why or how you have formed your opinion.
by Anonymous1 day ago
my opinions are based on facts only. it's my ideology.i don't have opinions just for the sake of well..having 'opinions'
by Anonymous1 day ago
Facts and preferences are used to form opinions. You have preferences for the sake of having preferences, because that is natural human behaviour. You are just stating lots the basic factual pros and cons of headphones/earphones and saying wired ones are better than wireless ones. There is no real opinion here, let alone an unpopular opinion.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Agreed. Except when they catch on something and your head almost gets ripped off.
by Lumpy-Bluejay66671 day ago
I disagree (shocker) it depends on how good the head phones are.
by Anonymous1 day ago
I think you also missed: Wireless headphones are just eWaste because of the battery. A decent set of headphones will outlive you, and still sound the same. Man I wish the EU would just make the headphone jack a requirement for phones.
by AlpsFun1 day ago
The only reason I switched to wireless is that the wire keep getting caught on stuff all the time ripping them out of my ears. The sound quality difference is near imperceptible to me personally.
by Cultural_Progress3521 day ago
Wired are better sometimes. For my use, Bluetooth is superior. Using wired at work would be a safety hazard and would mean I need to always have my phone on me, where Bluetooth i can leave my phone in a safe spot and move around unrestricted. Otherwise I agree with your points except for the durability part, Bluetooth headphones for me last a lot longer than any wired headphones I have owned
by Anonymous1 day ago
Wired has their place. But for working out wireless is sooo much better.
by Anonymous1 day ago
That's true, but it's the same as with big cars, I don't own a 9-seater even though it has many advantages, simply because I use it for something else. I personally don't notice a difference in music quality, and they're just more comfortable for me in the situations where I use them, at work or while walking. For gaming I simply use regular wired over-ear ones. Having one doesn't exclude having the other :)
