Andy Kaufman is not funny. End of story. amirite?
by Anonymous2 days ago
Debatable that it was "legendary"…
by Anonymous2 days ago
It really isn't "debatable" because he is nearly universally recognized within the comedy world as a comic legend. You being an outlier doesn't change that fact.

Not the world. Hadn't heard of him until the Jim Carey film.

How long have you been a professional comedian?
by colt612 days ago
And here you are talking about him 41 years after his death!

Yes there is some mystery we will never find the answer to where or better why Jim Carrey plays him in a movie. If you've seen Pee-wee's Big adventure the ending tickles your heartstrings like a harp, seeing the great James Brolin playing Peewee in his life story. I wonder if Weird Al Yankovic will play the great Gallagher in a comedy biography movie?

Didn't seem like my kinda humor but at the same time, Tony Clifton most definitely is...

Andy wasn't trying to make you laugh, he was trying to make himself laugh. Once you understand that, the man is a genius.

Very easy to underestimate the sheer impact of being a pioneer when you live in a world of shallow imitation.

Loved him on Taxi but Jim was the man !!!!!

People didn't even trust he was actually dead

One of the weirdest things I've ever seen under the guise of comedy was the bit where he begs his audience for money because he's down and out. After Andy Kaufman something changed something you can't put into words. Comedy became a tragedy and tragedy became comedy: it was around this time the term Performance Artists was employed.

Calm down

Classic take from somebody who doesn't realize the joke is literally on them.
by Plenty-Lie2 days ago
I think that he would agree wholeheartedly. And I'm not even joking.

100%. That Mighty Mouse thing was so stupid.

He died 5 months before I was born. And I'm 40... how tf old are you? I never even heard of the guy lol, I had to Google him.
by Anonymous2 days ago
He never described himself as a comedian. He also considered himself a song and dance man mix with a prankster.

End of story!
by Anonymous2 days ago
I agree. Not my type of humor. Even trying to adjust for the time period.
by Anonymous2 days ago
I agree. Best understood as performance art. I think at the end of the day, a lot of his character was motivated by the desire to get laid. Just like his wrestling with women was just a way to play out his kink on television and also get woman to wrestle with him that otherwise might not. So, the jokes on us hahah
