+46 Tattoos are ugly, the bigger the uglier, amirite?

by Emergency_Pea_2469 2 days ago

Unpopular. Most people dont care

by rashadcollier 2 days ago

You'd be surprised. Once you get tattoos, you'll be surprised by how many random people have something to say about it.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Had multiple tattoos for years now not once has a random person ever had anything negative to say to me about them

by Traditional_Main 2 days ago

That's definitely the default experience. I would imagine that if you have a lot of tattoos that are visible and rarely has anyone said anything to you, it's because you simply don't go outside much or live in a scarcely populated place. in a big city where I live, it's clear that many heavily tattooed people turn into the rebellious "unconventional" cringe type because of how much negative attention they apparently receive for their tattoos.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's a valid point. I spend just about every night out and about, so it makes sense it would happen to me often.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Also agree here, I've got them in many visible places and have only ever heard good things.

by Final-Revenue-8785 2 days ago

You would need to leave your house for you to have a social interaction

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah I feel like mustaches are a bigger controversy than tats lol

by Silent_Complaint7650 2 days ago

Yeha but being pro/anti Tattoo is way different from just making a general statement like "tattoos are ugly".

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Just don't mention septum piercings to them

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Its unpopular because i think its around 45% of (millenials?) have tattoos so not much of a stretch to say 10% of people without them dont think badly of them so over half of that generation think theyre not ugly. I could be wrong

by Anonymous 2 days ago

A lot of people feel that way and honestly it really just comes down to taste. Some see tattoos as meaningful art or self expression while others feel like it clutters someones appearance. What's ugly to one person might be deeply personal or beautiful to someone else.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Realistically, do you think you could find someone who is capable of executing on an arbitrary tattoo in a random style in the next week and within 150km of you? Speaking only for myself here but if it's something that's going to be on my body for the rest of my life? I'm probably not going to rush it. Why not take your time and do it well?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

one day his dad wrote him a note saying "I'm proud of you" in Japanese. He took that note to a tattoo parlor and had it tattooed inside his wrist, in his dad's exact handwriting This actually made me tear up a little. It's so sweet.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Same. Daddy issues unite!

by Even-Mirror 2 days ago

Ironic because the Japanese generally really hate tatts but hey maybe his dad didn't.

by KookySurprise8119 2 days ago

Is it weird to think they clutter a persons appearance but sometimes people look nice cluttered? I generally don't care for tattoos but it's an aesthetic some people exude and it fits who they are.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yeah, like a pikachu or deceased pet on somebodies forearm. It's so stupid to me when somebodies first tattoo is something "cool" on their forearm. It's boring and permanent performative art. Not private, not special, just something impersonal and unoriginal to be seen by everybody.

by Sad_Explorer_433 2 days ago

A deceased pikachu?

by KeyAdministration 2 days ago

I saw a spong bob the other day, Bob was not looking so good.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

This is a fairly popular opinion worldwide

by Accomplished-Act7847 2 days ago

Right? How many of these do we need? 💀

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Love it!

by Timely_Influence_304 2 days ago

This is so cool, I had no idea!

by jovani15 2 days ago

I'm glad someone else caught that. The Yakuza bit threw me for a loop, because huh? 💀

by roobdonny 1 day ago

Literally zero of my tattoos were for other people. But they are also a great way to filter folks who have OP's mindset!

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Its legit how most of western society viewed tattoos until around the 1990s

by Accomplished-Act7847 1 day ago

So many people confuse "the way my parents grew up" with "the way things always were" as if they forget that human society existed for thousands of years before their parents were even born.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They love to lean into the Japanese cultural zeitgeist that you should still be ashamed of your tattoos. It was such a genuine culture shock having to completely cover mine just to enter an Onsen

by schummrickey 1 day ago

And its kinda crazy cause, like, hopefully this doesn't come across as xenophobic or whatever, but I dont know if we should be looking to a country such as Japan for moral approval...ya know.

by CapitalDefinition 1 day ago

Totally. And they sweep their homeless problem under a rug, and there is zero work/life balance. Oh and depression. The government there will tell you there is none of that. That said, Japan as a whole is incredibly beautiful. The people are genuinely sweet, just overworked (especially corporate)

by schummrickey 1 day ago

Not an unpopular take. Just a boring one.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I've got no problem with people wanting tattoos. I'm personally too indecisive and never fully done with a design, to ever get a tattoo myself. I will say my rule of thumb that I personally have never broken, is tattoos will never make a person beautiful, but they can make a beautiful person ugly.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Wake up, babe. The daily "unpopular" anti-tattoo opinion dropped

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The answer to "ugh, why" is because they like it. They're getting the tattoos for themselves, not for you. There are plenty of people like you who don't like tattoos, it's just a matter of preferences.

by Individual_Rent 1 day ago

It's just another form of fashion.....

by Sure-Percentage-9263 1 day ago

That's some kind of Jedi mind trick. That's like saying people only get bumper stickers for their own car to read themselves and don't care about what other people think about them.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They never said they don't care about what other people think. They said they get it for themselves. And people get tattoos for several reasons. Many people get tattoos in areas others will never see. Other people prefer to get tattoos in areas they're able to see for themself because they enjoy it. And some get tattoos in areas they can't see themself, because they think it'll look cool to other people.

by laurie26 1 day ago

Skin doesn't hold elasticity the older you get. If you find them off-putting now, just wait.

by TrickyBrain 1 day ago

The skin is gonna wrinkle and hang whether it's inked or not. I really don't see how the tattoos make an elderly person look any more or less off-putting.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

They all end up looking like someone threw water on a painting lol

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Sigh, such a boring take

by Rgoodwin 1 day ago

Okay then don't get any

by Broad_Alfalfa 1 day ago

Personal opinion. Next

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Good thing people wth tattoos don't get them to make other people happy lmao

by PeachEven 1 day ago

I agree about huge constantly viewable tattoos being unattractive to me. But also, I don't that others have to look a certain way just to be attractive to me. You didn't say they had to either, just that it's your opinion it's ugly, which is valid for your opinion! Kudos on a good unpopular opinion and not being a dick about it, which is how most people come off with opinions like this.

by Luettgengilda 1 day ago

Tell me your Christian without telling me your Christian

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm not a fan of tattoos and I know I will never get one. And I can't say I like looking at them on other people, but it is their choice/their body so I am not going to control what they do. The tricky part is dating since so many people have so many of them. To find a partner without a tattoo is low percentage.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

In the US only around 30% of adults have tattoos, the opposite of what you described

by Outrageous_Sugar 1 day ago

And what percentage is of a typical dating age? I'm a millennial, so that percentage is going to be higher proportion in that demographic. And 30% of US population is still 102 million people…

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I want to get a tattoo so I can be unique just like everyone else

by gabrielle11 1 day ago

People don't get them to "be unique", we get them because we think they're pretty or cool, and even people who HAVE tattoos have their own opinions on what's an ugly tattoo and what's not but most of us don't care enough about what someone else does with their body to judge them.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

My logic is that my body has plenty of scars and marks that I didn't choose to have, why not make some marks that I find meaningful and beautiful?

by RadishOther 1 day ago

Exactly! Some of my tattoos have a lot of meaning for me too and others I just find so pretty and they helped my confidence. I've seen some of the tattoos done for breast cancer survivors and they are BEAUTIFUL and helped them with their confidence so much. We also didn't choose this vessel and it's only temporary anyway, why not decorate it how we want?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Your boomer is showing

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This, but without the sarcasm. Tattoos are genuinely a powerful medium for self expression.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

there's some really amazing tattoos, this is nowhere near an accurate blanket statement

by Lillyschamberge 1 day ago

Translation - "Boo hoo I'm a grown ass human mad about what other people like to do with their own bodies"

by Turbulent_Nose 1 day ago

He didn't tell you to cry about it. He j gave his opinion.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Huge disagree. Love women with tattoos. Especially ones I can relate to. Tattoos can also show me what a person likes, which is really cool. Love spotting anime tattoos on people, or small references that I get. That's the best. Idk what to tell you. They're cool.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

If you find them ugly all that means is they aren't for you. I'm sure not everyone wears clothes you like, decorate houses the way you like or like art or tv you like. People get them because they like them. How you feel about them is largely irrelevant

by Individual_Honey 1 day ago

The thing I love about opinions like this is it allows you know the character of someone without ever meeting them.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I enjoy tattoos. Them making elderly uptight white women uncomfortable is just a bonus. I can avoid any grandmas asking me "Isn't that Matt Rife so funny?"

by Kolbysmitham 1 day ago

I have a full sleeve and a lot of elderly white woman compliment it

by Anonymous 1 day ago

what?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I'm with you. Tats have become nothing but a trendy fashion 'statement' which is wild because they are permanent. It's also funny that so many people with them look just alike while trying to look cool. They've all missed the point of tats entirely.

by Hbartell 1 day ago

This! Especially the bros it's like a uniform at this point. Some kinda old time fade haircut, oily beard and a colorful sleeve tattoo.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Haha. I'm covered in tattoos. Your hate fuels me

by Playful-Location1410 1 day ago

Its not that deep, in the hindsight these things don't matter. People like to have art on their body and you look silly for feeling so strongly about it.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Tattoos are so trashy.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The thing I don't understand is how people can decide on a tattoo that permanently alters their skin, and that they may regret later in life. I can't even easily choose what I'm gonna eat today lol.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

yep for this reason alone i can never get a tattoo

by krystel87 1 day ago

Exactly, especially when I feel like technology is getting close to less painful and removable ‘tattoos'

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Nothing says "I can't see the future" quite like an extensive collection of body "art." Our tastes change but want to etch a phrase or image into my skin permanently, assuming I'll never get tired of it. Come on, people. We change our hair style, throw out our wardrobe and start over, change jobs, move every 5 years. Hell, the divorce rate is over 50%.

by Weary_Budget_4353 1 day ago

Yes and in five years time the tattoo that has meaning to me about why I choose to live where I do will still have that same special meaning to me

by Traditional_Main 1 day ago

Hardly unpopular.... Try again.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

its funny you mention the history of tattoos because maybe its just my ancestry here but when I think tattoos I think Scandinavian viking dudes with badass looking tattoos that stretched from head to toe

by Zellagleichner 1 day ago

Do what you want, but I don't get trusting someone to put something on me that's going to be visible for life. You'd think people would be clamoring for some sort of tattoo that goes away after 6 months. Or some other semi permanent solution.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

My boomer dad and his friends were not sailors, inmates, or Yakuza (!) Wow, you make a lot of assumptions. I don't have any tattoos but that's because I don't care enough about anything to permanently in it on my body. Many of them are beautiful.

by NoNeighborhood5132 1 day ago

Yeah true, most look like smears or bruises to me and they're everywhere

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I always viewed tattoos for the individual, not everyone else. Maybe you think tattoos make people ugly on the outside, your mentality makes you ugly on the inside.

by Flaky-Agency 1 day ago

Nice try, grandma.

by josue03 1 day ago

I steer clear of girls with heavily visible tattoos. Especially chest tattoos. I don't have to explain, everyone knows why. I do love art, but I'll just frame it and not permanently change society's perception of me.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I have five. I like their aesthetic

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Don't have any, not against it. But most look ugly af. Tattoo choice needs to go with overall vibe of the person.

by schmitthank 1 day ago

I'll second your opinion that they're ugly. Cartoon book on legs

by Waterslaisha 1 day ago

I can't take people with especially large tattoos seriously. I just picture a child coloring on themselves. Also, I hate to say it but people with darker skin getting tattoos doesn't make sense to me... Can't even see it.

by Fantastic-Chain 1 day ago

Yeah. I'm vanilla (no piercings and tattoos) and somehow a millennial. I didn't want to be a living sketch book- it all looks bad. I had a friend who tattooed her boyfriend's "drawing" on her arm- people, it was a smiley face. 😞 I've lost all hope for humanity

by Economy_Chemical_908 1 day ago

I don't get them for anyone except myself. My husband likes them. I like the art and I plan on getting more. People are not here to please you.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

"Why buy and hang a painting on your wall from an artist you like?"

by ornsidney 1 day ago

You can always take a painting down off the wall. Can't just erase tattoos. Most people end up regretting the ones they get.

by schadenadalbert 1 day ago

Not really pro- or anti- tattoo. Just not for me. But I will say that, to me, people with tattoos look dirty, as in they need to bathe. Intellectually, I know this isn't true, but that vibe is the first thing that hits me when I see someone tatted up. Also, I get a very strong negative vibe from police with tats.

by russ52 1 day ago

100%

by Agitated-Composer345 1 day ago

Tattoos are more mainstream than pants.

by Acrobatic_Tadpole 1 day ago

as I'm reading this I'm getting my very big leg sleeve finished off

by Cronaweston 1 day ago

My god you must be terrible in person

by Successful-Hat 1 day ago

Good. Idgaf of some random person thinks I'm ugly. They're for me.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Is it all tattoos that you don't like? What about, for example, someone gets a tattoo(s) to cover scars from burns, accidents or even self harm? Or is it just a flat out "I do not like tattoos"?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

"Ugh why" I'm too lazy to write a memoir so I'll just have the story of stuff I like printed directly onto me instead. A living history of self, if you will. I will look down and go "oh yeah, that thing. Man, that's a good memory" and then I'll be slightly happpier than I was moments before. Or, I'll just get a thing I think looks cool because I think it's cool and I'm not trying to bang any DJDoenas so there's no material loss

by WaferFuzzy7250 1 day ago

are you like 90 years old or something

by Anonymous 1 day ago

agreed. it used to be cool and now policemen have full sleeves and taylor swift fans have neck tats

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not an unpopular opinion, because many people agree with you on that one. I personally don't have tats, but my father used to tell me if I get them I should make sure that I can cover them up with a shirt (business attire). Psychologically speaking, I read that tats give off vibes that the person is impulsive and has bad decision making, which is why they are not welcomed if you want to get a good career

by carlee88 1 day ago

They look like a desk in detention. Paying for tattoos is like buying pre faded clothes or ripped jeans. You didn't earn the story behind that wear and tear, you bought it.

by oreillykaya 1 day ago

Completely agree, they look utterly ridiculous. TWATOOS.

by Clevedouglas 1 day ago

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I suppose. I have zero tattoos myself. And there are, to me, some people that definitely would look better without ink. That being said, I also view tattoos as art, and art SHOULD be displayed where people can see it. Even if half the population thinks it's ugly. I don't really care what someone does with their own body/skin. Some choices are questionable, or outright bad, but I'm a firm believer in MYOB on things that don't actually affect me in any discernible way. And even people being covered in ink from head to toe doesn't affect me in any real way.

by Mjerde 1 day ago

Eh. Personal opinions. I have a tattoo of my dog's paw print and her name I got on the 1 year anniversary of her passing. It's a memorial for her. I have two more pets I need to add on my "memorial arm" as I call it, and then I'll be working on my other arm which will be for things that have a lot of meaning to me. I plan on adding lilies somewhere to represent my daughter. Now I do agree with you in some places. Specifically face tattoos, hand tattoos, neck tattoos, and chest tattoos. Leg tattoos are iffy for me. I prefer forearm tattoos, if anything.

by YakDecent 1 day ago

I find the need to judge others appearances ugly, to each their own.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Not nearly as ugly as people who think they have the right to an opinion about other people's bodies.

by haileesmith 1 day ago

You don't like Pokemon tattoos?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is more like split down the middle than unpopular personally , this could be my experience , I feel like women suffer more criticism for getting tattoos than men , it seems I love my 2 tattoos personally , and i might want a hand one at some point

by blandacameron 1 day ago

The nice thing about tattoos is that you can tell just about everything you need to know about someone before they say anything based on the nonsense they have emblazoned on their flesh.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

"Tattoos = most likely criminals, gangsters or drug addicts" - Nayib Bukele

by Edwin36 1 day ago

Lol, I grew up thinking tattoos were something only old people had because my grandfather had a tattoo from the navy. They give me a warm nostalgia feeling, and I love looking at them, but I don't want any of my own. It's all about perspective and personal taste.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Opinions are like assholes

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

They don't care

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

Yeah imo they just make anyone look worse. It's a dirty vibe w tattoos. Some of them look cool as an art piece but NEVER looks good on skin.

by Anonymous 23 hours ago

I'll never say they're ugly, but I would never get one because they're not for me. Some people look really good with them, others definitely don't

by PitifulAsk891 23 hours ago

I only love small cute tattoos

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

Must be that time of the week again

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

It's true that tattoos are deeply personal and often not meant for public approval. Their history and meaning go way beyond just being a fashion statement for others to judge.

by Anonymous 22 hours ago

Sincerely I'm 28 and mine are exactly that stickers effectively... Things I like and then on my leg is my demons it's for me not other people, that's your taste and that's okay

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

I have aphantasia and my tattoos all represent my family and loved ones (each person has their own tattoo). They serve to me as reminders that how ever far away my family is (I live in a different country than my parents and siblings) they are always with me. It has nothing to do with attractiveness and thinking it does is wild. Not everything is about you and that is okay…

by Anonymous 21 hours ago

It seems to turn into an addiction, they're never done they need to add some shadowing a snake or some flowers or whatever. I personally do not like tattoos and don't have any and never will.

by Rude-Big-7590 21 hours ago

Totally agree with you, nearly everyone seems offended nowadays if you don't like tattoos in general. Some people just ruin themselves with it, especially when it's dozens of different tattoos without a concept.

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

Pretty much 100% agree with OP. Some tattoos can be meaningful to people though. I worked with a girl who had her dead brothers birth/dead dates on her fingers. Most people don't get "meaningful" tattoos though. Usually when someone I work with or become close to has one I ask about it, and they pretty much never have meaning beyond "it's cool" and I wanted a tattoo. If you want a cool or cute one, keep it small and somewhere out of the way. Ankles, upper back, shoulders etc. Somewhere you can cover it up.

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

This is a pretty popular opinion with the old crowd

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

I get bugged when someone complains how broke they are, can't pay the bills, buy things for the kids. Yet they have no problem dropping several hundred on a tattoo. Ummm… priorities?

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

I generally don't like people who have entire limbs covered in tattoos, but I do think smaller designs can be beautiful. I am considering getting a small dog paw on my wrist for my dog who passed away. Those kinds of tattoos can be really nice.

by Anonymous 20 hours ago

And how do they react after their world views shift with age? The tattoo trend is a reflection of media influence and marketing. It started with MTV and professional sports.

by ImmediateSituation 19 hours ago
