+64 The individualistic society that is destroying the planet is the biggest concern we need to talk about more, amirite?

Shall we start with the fact that only 1% of the global population owns over 50% of the earth's wealth, and controls most of the resources? Telling the other 99% (and certainly the 70% worldwide who own less than 10% of the global wealth) that they should be less individualistic is like telling people not to spill on the carpet while some boss is pulling your house down.

Not only we are not overpopulated, total population is going to crash pretty hard in the next 30 or so years as boomer generation goes. What are you basing your overpopulation claim on?

I have to be individualistic because I'm not allowed to be part of a collective.

If you ask Elon's mentally challenged ass he would say turning a whole other planet into pollution free earth is the logical solution.

He'll just say whatever sounds cool and futuristic in his mind, which he knows from experience gets rich idiots excited to give him more money. He doesn't actually care about the problem.

Techno-solutionism will always be attractive. It's the only way someone who actually listens to the experts on the climate can hope things will get better without a revolutionary change in our economy (i.e. de-growth). I get being persuaded by people like Musk in the 2000s-2010s. I don't get people who still believe in him now, but that's another story... Anyway, there will be others who will offer fantastical solutions to the masses so they won't revolt against the capitalist system that's causing the fundamental issue.

If there is no me, then there is no we. You gotta do better as a me before you can think about we.

For your own good, I hope you're trolling. You can't tell left from right.

It's an individualistic society that allows you to even voice a concern like this. Human nature tends toward greed, so in a collectivist society, your dissent would likely be silenced. Seen as an obstacle to those seeking to maximize their own benefit under the banner of 'the greater good.' I come from a collectivist society, and I'm honestly amazed that many people here don't realize how much individualism contributes to the strength of their society. In an individualistic culture, when someone sees a problem, they speak up. In a collectivist culture, when I see a problem, I assume it's just me, and I move on.

I mean individualistic societies have deleterious tendencies on the people within the society itself. It promotes a zero sum mentality and mixed with win at all costs strategy.
