This! Love a few rugs in key places. Cleaning them and eventually replacing them if needed is so much easier than dealing with wall to wall carpet.

Carpeted tiles are another option, if you want the full carpet look/feel. As long as you don't appoxy them in place, they are really easy to remove when they get worn or stained.

Im unwilling to lay on the carpet at many home

Very easy to create zones as well to properly shape the energy flow through your home. Like a large rug under your sofa to create the TV area while also having other things in the room.

I am ALWAYS torn on this. Living in Texas it was never an issue but some how being somewhere it snows now has caused so many odd issues. Winter time with no capert anywhere was awful, we couldn't get enough rugs, this house has carpet in every where minus the "wet areas". The dining room has it and it looks bad, for some reason it's next to each back door but not the front. We can't keep this carpet clean to save our life. That being said I would like a little less than I have but bedrooms/hallways will always be a MUST for me. Family rooms/living rooms I'm 50/50 on but I'll just blame the dogs mostly.

Yep. I don't have wood floors (I have that fake wood-looking stuff), but I don't even see them because every square centimeter is covered by rugs. I do hate walking on cold, hard floors, but carpet is too "fixed." Rugs are much easier to clean and/or replace.

Of course it is nice, until you have to clean them
by Michale402 days ago
A lot easier. Especially if you have pets or kids

I have a dog who sheds endlessly. I have all hardwood and it's so easy to clean. When I vacuum the rugs it's a whole canister I have to empty out per rug. I'd be miserable with carpeted floors

Not if you have pets

Or young children.

I believe most if not all pulmonologists would disagree.

I love the idea of carpet, but the reality is disgusting and expensive. Maybe someday if I'm absolutely rolling in dough and can afford to replace it every few years.. but that's just wasteful.
by Few_Librarian_11001 day ago
Carpet is disgusting and medieval. Anything that spills on carpet will live there forever. I would never, ever live anywhere with carpet. Just add rugs. You can wash and replace them.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Replacing carpet is not that difficult or expensive. Are beds also disgusting and medieval? Your mattress contains everything ever spilled on it. Or are you sleeping on hardwood as well?

lol, my feed always has a few "I was born in 2008, here's why I'm a millennial"

You don't have young children. Linoleum or vinyl is a lot easier to clean than carpets, and not as hard as wood or stone.

Yessss! I just carpeted my whole house (except bath and kitchen and balcony) and i love it. I wanted carpet for over 10 years and last month it finally happened. So happy with the end result. My dog also loves it, she likes sleeping on soft surfaces, but also on the ground, so this is heaven for her. And she has traction and can jump wherever she wants and run how much she wants.

Carpet is great when I rent and I don't have to pay to replace damaged, smelly or old carpet.

I LOVE carpet, especially in the bedroom.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Honestly, carpet is good for upstairs. We went all hardwood upstairs and now you can hear every step.
by Anonymous1 day ago
This is a silly opinion because it depends so much on different circumstances, and yours may be different than others. If you live in extreme cold weather climates, then yeah carpet will be more cozy than anything else. If you've got pets, especially cats, carpet is objectively terrible. Carpets are much harder to keep clean, and most people just don't keep them clean. (vacuuming every single day would still not keep carpets clean) All that said, people should just get whatever flooring they personally prefer.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Not with lots of fluffy pets!

My cats throw up grass once a week. I would hate to have carpet.
by Anonymous1 day ago
Have you never heard of an area rug? Does wonders for warmth with the added class of hardwood. Now LVP I hate, nothing luxury about plastic floors.
by Anonymous1 day ago
You don't cover the entire floor, just areas. Like one for your sitting area and one in the dining area if you're in an open concept home to help define the spaces. Everything else should be uncovered so you can see the lovely wood. I for one am very skimpy with the rugs, I much prefer to see the hardwood, the only place I'm open to full carpeting is bedrooms.

Here's an unpopular opinion: hardwood floors are ass and I'll never, ever have them again.
by Dense-Background-7661 day ago
Im 100% a carpet person. The number of people here who think this is a bad opinion because they have no control over their children making messes is hilarious

I can't say if carpet is better than hardwood, but basically anything is better than laminate or vinyl planks. And that is a hill I am willing to die on.
by Anonymous1 day ago
No absolutely not. Especially when you have pets and kids

It also provides an almost completely uncleanuable and unlimited supply of germs and bugs.

The energy it takes to keep carpet clean compared to hard wood is enough to power the city of Cleveland for 5000 years. More if you have dogs.

I grew up in a house with carpets everywhere, including bathroom and kitchen. And I loved it. As a ground creature it is so convenient to be able to sit or lay anywhere on the ground.
by Anonymous1 day ago
The people who built our house put in heated flooring ... and while they also put in mostly carpets, we've been replacing it with hardwood room by room and it is amazing. You get a nice warm surface to walk on!
by jo111 day ago
You clearly don't have dogs.

Have you ever called out a rug cleaner with a full-van equipment like Stanley Steemer? If so, have you seen the absolute filth that comes out of the carpet? I have, it made me decide that I never, ever want to have carpet in my home as long as I live. If installing wood is too expensive for you and it's not already sitting under your carpet, then install vinyl plank. It looks good and it's easy to keep clean.
by Anonymous1 day ago
I don't know if it's because I've had to sweep with a broom or something else, But I hate carpets. I have a vacuum now and rugs on the floor, and I still hate it. Give me tiles or wooden floors any day.
by Anonymous1 day ago
I don't necessarily agree, but I do agree that hardwood isn't necessarily superior to carpet. They each have their place.
by Anonymous1 day ago
If you ever drop anything, its much nicer sounding on carpet. Keys especially. Also, once the hardwood ages and the cracks begin to grow larger, any liquids that spill will enter those cracks, and potentially start to smell. If you have dogs their nails will clack around, and when they piss on the hardwood, you're not getting all of it up with a mop. It's underneath too. Its disgusting and noisy. Just get carpets and replace them every once in a while.
by Mean-Letterhead-38841 day ago
Most carpet is synthetic, and it all sheds, so you're literally breathing in plastic every time you walk on it. Also god forbid you have a puppy. They piss once on your carpet, and they'll be pissing in the same spot for the rest of their life.
by Old-Organization61601 day ago
Carpet should be illegal. If you've ever had to demo carpet you'd know how absolutely disgusting it is.
