+87 What if the reason we don't remember the first 2-3 years of life is because we're so traumatized by the journey of birth, that we blacked it out to forget it. amirite?

I always figured it's nature's way of sparing you the knowledge of what your mom's boobs taste like

by Accurate-Sorbet 2 days ago

Wait, I remember what your mom's boobs taste like.

It's only considered a bad thing because of culture. Otherwise there's no taboo about it

by Ok_Chef 2 days ago

Yeah sure maybe your culture suppressed the "Mommy's tits" flavored milk, but most of us don't want or even know anything anywhere near what that is. Just totally leave us out of that sort of thing thank you very much.

What are you attempting to mean here. Like I can't parse any of this

by Anonymous 2 days ago

2-3 years? I don't remember the first 6 years of my life.

Check out mr. Memory over here! I have trouble remembering much between 95 and 2015

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Well 2015 was 50 years ago, that's to be expected

by TrueSun 2 days ago

Wow you're so old!

by Ok_Chef 2 days ago

I remember a ton of things in my life pre-6, namely as my family moved homes between 6-7 and thus it's easy to note all the old house memories. Is it just good memory habits by comparison?

Sorry to buzzkill, but probably not. TW; pediatric abuse discussion below Babies who are truly abused or traumatized have their own tell tale signs unique to them such as: not making eye contact, fear of adults, withdrawal, aggression, fear of sleeping, weight changes, flinching when approached, hypervigilance, and loss of speech or other developmental milestones just to name a few. These signs of abuse may often lead to alterations in typical development that carry into childhood and even adulthood.

I feel like I remember a lot but it could just be seeing photos and videos

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I definitely remember very brief things like where we used to play as kids like there was an open area then there were stairs etc. I don't think we have photos of it so it must be from memory. We moved out of that place when I was 3 or 4 iirc

As someone who believes in reincarnation, I feel like the first part of this life is mostly forgetting your last one.

by BoysenberryLimp3123 2 days ago

Maybe? But honestly dude do you really want to have a perfect memory of you sliding out of your mother's vagina? Yeah neither do I, let's not take it to that point. No one wants that.

I swear to God I have a memory of me laying in my crib and waking up and holding on to the rail to help me stand up
