+67 I don't like Grand Theft Auto IV all that much and I think its very noticeable flaws are very overlooked. amirite?

Your complaints are basically all related to playing the game in 2025 and not when it released

I felt like this at the time - the Ballad of Gay Tony was so much more fun than the main game

It is a good DLC

You understand this game was released in 2008, right? It was a groundbreaking game 17 years ago. This is just a narrow-minded and unnecessary take.

IV is my favorite one. Vice City is a close second. I've never understood why people don't like IV. Of course, I'm not able to articulate what it is I love so much about it, but there's just some kind of secret sauce that pushes the right buttons in my brain

I'll admit the phone calls are annoying.

I think it's a pretty fun game

I mean they started development on this game two decades ago

Have you tried going bowling with Roman? Best part of the game

It's 2025 and GTA VI is on the verge of releasing on the latest consoles. We're sorry that in this current day and age, a revolutionary game from a time long far and passed doesn't meet up to your expectations.

All your complaints are the same ones people had pretty much when it came out. People like to look at it now with nostalgia goggles. But there is a reason they went so far in the other direction with gta v.

Played it back in the day. Ugly and repetitive. Sometimes I think people only like IV because of the rag doll physics…

Grand Theft Auto IV was released 17 years ago... Maybe cut it some slack. I would say that it's enduring popularity and terrific sales numbers would suggest that this is in fact an unpopular opinion.

I really enjoyed it, the city felt really immersive, the npcs were really cool, the music was bomb... i have a complaint though, lack of checkpoints for some missions was infuriating, but overall it was 9.5/10

Lemme elaborate my take a bit: First of all, just because a game is old and a product of its time, doesn't mean it shouldn't receive criticism. This is mostly because I've played games released before GTA IV that do a better job at a lot of things than in IV, in my opinion. And I'm only using V as a comparison because I believe it was an improvement, but if you want more; I feel better driving in old Vice City than IV, I feel better gunplay in Liberty City Stories, and I feel better story-telling in San Andreas. Sure, it was a pretty good, mind-blowing game at the time, but even still, most of the faults I see in it is not a product of time, and those that are, I understand. But just because it's old, doesn't mean I won't complain about this ugly ass gray filter everywhere. I get it's supposed to be a depressive setting, but this is just ridiculous. (I will say the euphoria physics are pretty cool and still hold up really well, though.)

I wfh and like to have things on in the background. I watched a playthrough of the game on YouTube recently and felt the same way. Some of the stuff seemed cool for the time and the franchise as a whole (making choices that alter the story), but it definitely does not deserve some of the praise it gets, especially Nico's story.

I like shootouts and driving cars, but I think GTA 4 has a boring and repetitive mission design, and even the much-praised story is 70% boring, meaningless filler. But I like the TBOGT DLC because they've greatly improved the creativity of the mission designs.

This is why V is superior. Not that IV is bad, but because rockstar just got better, simple as that. People can say what they want and like what they want, but the sales PROVE V is better

If sales mean quality then Ark is on the podium of the best games in history

by tillman23 1 day ago

lol you're saying ark made more money than GTA V?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You said "sales" and I'm also not comparing Ark to GTA V lol Btw Ark is the 4th most sold game of all time

by tillman23 1 day ago

Copies difficult to compare across generations too, way higher video game ownership during V's era. I just don't like sales as a 1:1 quality metric tbh. I don't think Minecraft is the best game ever made. There are many arguments for why V is better than IV that have nothing to do with sales imo

by Feisty-Mail 1 day ago

4 is better cause i prefer that one. Lots of mental gymnastics going on there.

by Alexanne33 1 day ago

The sales do not prove that

So you think Taylor Swift makes the best music because hers sells the most?
