Labubus are not some extraordinarily awful symbol of consumerism, amirite?
by Anonymous1 day ago
I agree with this.

Labubu is an anime character?
by Ok_Classroom1 day ago
It's not but it's a stuffed cute doll.

Not cute at all

You don't notice it because those things aren't mainstream. Labubu (and beanie babies before it) are experiencing a massive boom far exceeding those markets.

I definitely judged ppl harder for an anime figure than a labubu.

Yeah, so it's fair for it to be hated as much as any other trend. I hate them all equally. Besides, labubus are a semi-luxury and are a status display that has no use value beyond ownership. Collecting funko POP is also expensive, and lame, but you don't bring them anywhere do you?

Labubus serve the same purpose as other keychain type items though, theyre just larger and overpriced. They can show what someone is interested in or can just be that someone finds them visually appealing which. Im glad someone does

If keychains show what you are interested in, Labubus are Labubus. Nothing beyond the object, no lore. Your interest in a keychain here would be the keychain. Which is made of the same material as other keychains. Its price is artificial, there is nothing beyond the trend, and you can't say that ALL people who own Labubus loved them initially for their design. They are hated not for what they are but for what they represent: capitalist trends linked to performing wealth. Just as Dubai Chocolate, Matcha Latte, are mocked for the same reasons. You can enjoy your Labubu and Lafufu all you want. Mocking people for it is as ridiculous as defending and standing by the Labubu owners.

I highly doubt this is an unpopular opinion

Ill give my opinion on this in 5 minutes

If something is specifically made to be collected, it's usually trash for idiots and they will forget about it within a year and then throw it away at some point when they find it in the basement etc years later

Blind boxes in general are just an annoying marketing gimmick. That being said, Labubus are NO different from every consumerist micro trend the past several years. Now it's Owala and Labubus, a few months ago it was jelly cats and stanleys, in the 2010s it was Starbucks cups, in the 90s it was beanie babies. We just never freaking learn, and Labubus are just one of many examples

They're not a sign of ultra consumerism, they are a sign of a large array of toddlers trapped in grown ass adults. 30+ years old and into Labubus? Sorry, I'm out.

I highly doubt that stereotypical millenials are the average labubu fiend, they just get the most attention online because they know how to play the algorithm . Most labubu ppl are probably kids and college students who think theyre cute or want to fit in. Unfortunately fully grown middle schoolers tend to be the loudest people in many communities
