I believe in most other countries around the world amber turn signals are required. The USA doesn't require them. It's why some vehicles have amber turn signals and others don't.

The part about the driver behind expressing caution and that being better than any signal is dumb. Caution signals should not be given by proxy. The clearest signal is one that can not be misinterpreted.

I stridently feel the opposite, that the Europeans got it right, amber for directional or hazard, red for brake or taillamp.
