+57 If a lot of people use GPT as their psychologists, then certified psychologists should develop a GPT specifically for this, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The problem with this is that psychology requires emotional intelligence and that is something that LLMs lack regardless of how well you program it

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Why should they? Not their responsibility. They maybe could (I don't know) but I don't see an obligation to build one themselves.

If not the psychologists then whose?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Not sure if it would be anyone's responsibility. But then maybe government regulations? Tech companies hiring psychologists for this purpose?

by Old_Job_2369 2 days ago

I didn't say it's Psychologists responsibility it's probably a collaboration of several parties, but I won't wonder since Chatgpt is replacing a lot of Psychologists

If you want to hold someone responsible, there first must be a legal framework. So, government regulations.

I've seen concern that teenagers are turning to LLMs when they're depressed/suicidal. Sounds like an opportunity then to get it right instead of just complaining about it.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

That's what I am thinking, if it's inevitable then let's do it right then

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I think the issue is your wording. Psychologists *might* do it, if it's feasible, doesn't lead to legal complications, and they get paid for it. But there is no reason why they *should* do it.

That sounds like a good way for a psychologist to open themselves up to a lawsuit. I don't think any psychologist would recommend using AI as a therapist, there's a lot of risks with hallucinations. One big risk is that GPTs are very biased towards what the user inputs, which means that they're exceptionally bad at recognising and helping with narcissistic traits.

If it's well trained and someone can use it whenever they want then why not, Psychologists sessions are expensive too and I bet people feel uncomfortable to share every emotion there

No?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I have my doubts. The timing is too close

What a dumb take

Isn't better than people who use unguided chatgpt and led some people to kill themselves?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's not the psychologists responsibility though. They could warn about the dangers but I don't see why they would have to provide an alternative GPT.

by Old_Job_2369 2 days ago

Oh what is this, using emotional arguments to support your stance?

by Dry_Description_7606 2 days ago

I am sharing an opinion for a problem that has occurred and many psychologists has warned about and want to hear others if it's good or bad. Now you are here saying "dumb" without any justification
