You save time and gas money if they aren't in the same complex and getting more stuff at the same place?

I'm not sure if they still do but various places used to also price match Amazon. Avoided having to wait for shipping.

Exactly. If I'm getting most of my items at store A, but store B has one or two things for less, I can simply ask store A to match store B's price and save myself an extra trip. OP, have fun driving all over town to purchase one item at each store because it's cheaper.

Because some stores have better customer service. Some have better return policies. Some are closer to you. Why go to another store when you need to go to X anyway, so might as well get Y there as well for the same price at store Z .

And if they don't fully want to match the price, that's valid as well, of course.

If you would rather give your business to the store you're already in, or if you physically can't get to the other store, then pricematching is amazing

I've been saying this for years, paying less for items is ideal and idc who I offend with that opinion. 😤

Recently I had to purchase a double oven but wanted it installed as well as delivered. Went to Currys, saw one I liked but it was £120 more expensive than the same oven on Amazon. Showed the assistant and immediately got it at that price with free delivery and a bit extra for the install. Price match saved me a lot but thanks for your opinion.

These places often have a reputation for being cheaper, such as ALDI or LIDL. When other places want to appear to their customers who may switch, they'll put these sticks up to say, we're as cheap as they are? Some people may not want to go to the extra effort of driving to these places or may not like the products as much, but the cost factor may be starting to convince them. The small effort of putting these stickers up may keep them on this side of the fence. At the end of the day, rather than say something is pointless. It's maybe best to think "I don't understand the point" rather than say there isn't one. These companies are big and spend tttooonnnssss of money on experts, research and resources for this stuff. They know better than us.

Yes, unless I have other reasons to buy at store A. Then I can request them to match store B's price.

Same reason you get quotes from various dealerships, construction, insurance companies.. you shop around to get the best value. The store you went to, also could be selling X that Y store doesn't sell so you went to the other store regardless

The premise is that you're already there. If given the choice, sure I'll go to the store that just sells it cheaper vs. only selling it cheap when a customer finds a better deal and points it out.

Because the JB HiFi is a lot closer...and there's absolutely no reason to travel an extra 25 minutes when they're willing to price match.

Because every consumer wants instant gratification. You do know that many will in-store price match online prices as well right? Especially if you find it cheaper on Amazon. Why wait 2 days when you can have it right now for the same price? Why drive across town, waste gas, when what you want is right here, I'll not only price match, I'll toss in an extra 20% Off just because you bought it here.

The store would rather take a smaller profit than not make a sale at all...

I've used price match before. Primarily because of return policies, customer service, familiarity with the store, and rewards.

Counterpoint: I do not want to shop at some stores for personal reasons. I cannot shop at other stores for logistical ones.

If I'm already there, or if I live a lot closer to it, then it makes more sense for me a price match it at that store. Maybe I like the service or policies better. That being said, I worked at Target for over two years and people rarely actually price matched.
by Anonymous2 days ago
It's a psychological trick. You're supposed to think, "A store willing to price match must really care about being affordable!"
by Stunning-Register2 days ago
Or "so if I had not asked, they would have charged me too much".
by Anonymous2 days ago
True also. It's a ploy. I worked at a Supermarket in high school. The only people who EVER price-matched were, well, the elderly, the rare anal-retentive, and once in a blue moon, someone genuinely just trying to save a buck. In other words, it was fairly rare that anyone actually used the feature. But people knowing that my store was willing to drop their price, just like that? That brought a lot of people through the doors.
by Stunning-Register2 days ago
This is also like people who buy something just cause it's on sale. "But Look how much money I saved by buying it for the discounted price!! Can't you see the discount?" Bitch please, you wouldn't have spent that money in the first place regardless of the price. That lower price is exactly what you spent your money on.
