+30 We hate sports teams for their dominance, but then are almost sad when their dynasty inevitably ends. amirite?

by Hesselkailyn 4 hours ago

What? That's not true at all, no one but patriots fans were sad when patriots dynasty ended except patriots fans, same with niners etc.

by LandscapeExpensive53 4 hours ago

I can assure you people don't miss Tom Brady, or Nick Saban's Alabama as two examples

I think a lot of hockey fans are pretty sick of Florida teams these days lol

Not if you're in Calgary

Yeah wtf? Who misses the Pats except Pats fans? Yeesh.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

I felt as though the Pats were missed by anyone who wasn't a chiefs man. It felt like the old guard or the lesser evil in a way. With everyone talking about Mahomes being the goat or Chris Collinsworth opening his mouth ever, you almost wanted the old Pats to come back to put them in their place

Came here to say exactly this

Die heroes or live long enough to become villains. Our sports are entertainment shows at the end of the day, and if every season ends the same way, we'll start to get fatigued.

Casual fans love dynasties and big name players (think LeBron vs curry, etc), but more passionate fans of the sport tend to want more parity and competition within the sport they watch.

We get sad that our team isn't the one who replaces the previous dynasty

Some people hate some teams for their dominance, other people are sad when their dynasty ends.

Maybe where you could from, definitely not where I come from. Every other fan rejoices and the fans of the dominant team feel the bitter pang of sorrow. Actual fans that is, for example there are a lot more Man City fans and a lot less Man United fans going around the UK than there were in the 90s.

Its the classic "root for the underdogs " thing. But theres also the fact that the best team gets the most fans and the most media coverage, so its like the main character dying and theres a major shift in the narrative that you were following

by Pure-Tooth429 2 hours ago

No. I hate other dynasties I don't root for, and am happy when it ends. I like it when my own team has a dynasty, and am sad when it ends.

The only dynasty in the big 4 NA sports that I had a strong opinion on was the Pats dynasty as a Jets fan. We were counting down the days until Brady couldn't hurt us anymore lol. The Jets organization naturally does that to their fans but I digress.

In terms of recent F1, I hated the Mercedes dominance, and was glad it ended. I hated the Red Bull dominance, and was glad it ended. And I'm hating the McLaren dominance, and looking forward until the moment comes it ends. Sports is just rooting for the underdogs man

These are two completely separate sets of people. It's like saying "We complain that Taylor Swift is overrated, but also spend thousands of dollars going to her concerts." The people who do one of those don't do the other.

by SpecialistHaunting98 1 hour ago

Not sure I entirely agree with this. I'm not sure if you follow tennis at all but I hated Novak Djokovic for 15 years straight as he kept beating my favorite players. Yet watching him get old, I am genuinely sad he's gonna be gone

by Hesselkailyn 1 hour ago

Most spend $0 on Taylor Swift concerts. TSwift Georg, however, has spent $10 billion dollars on those concerts and should have been excluded as an outlier.

I don't know what specifically you're talking about but as a(n association) football fan I simply hate when other teams keep winning the same titles 3 or 4 times in a row. And I definitely don't get sad when these streaks end. But I would absolutely love if it was my club winning those.

Not sad Bama's is over. They deserve everything they've got coming.

Username taken into account, understandable

No one is sad when a dynasty ends except the fans of that team.

I didn't hate Bama because they were dominant. I hated Bama because Saban left LSU to go to the NFL only to suck at it and immediately come back to a different SEC school. Death to all traitors.
