+24 The guy who half-assed a competition and won is more impressive than the guy who lost, but told everyone he "gave 110%". amirite?

Objectively based on the competition, yes. But that's not how life works lol.

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

Why would that be impressive and not terribly sad?

by Anonymous 3 hours ago

If he won the competition without trying it is. The guy who lost while "giving 110%" was trying.

It's the story of my life. Didn't say it was fair or happy.

You said it was impressive though. It's not. It's the sign of something is wrong.

What's more impressive, a guy who gave 110% of his abilities to lose, of the guy who used half his potential/power to win?

Complacency is death. A lot of people see 30 years of retail experience as hard work that should be rewarded, but it's complacency: no risk, low reward. Relative and deserved. Doing the same mindless job for 30 years and being unable to break out is not the result of an unfair system. You need to strive to do better at every given moment instead plain sailing and complaining.

I think it's a sign that the competition is rigged more than a show of the quality of the competitors

"This race is biased against those who are faster than me."

The race is biased against those with more luck. Richer parents, better education, more opportunities. The cognitive dissonance it takes for you to ignore that is wild

I would show up to work, do the bare minimum. Literally the bare minimum of obligation, that my job required. Talk to the sup about movies and music in the cafeteria about what a scene or lyric meant. While other people busted their asses, took their job super seriously. Meanwhile me and sup were getting into heated arguments about PKD movies. When it came time for promotions a year in, I got the role of supervisor, while my boss was moved up to operations manager. If you're giving your all for a company. You're a total idiot that fell for the oldest scam in the book.

If you half-assed and won then you're probably competing with people far below your skill level and that kinda makes you a whole different kind of loser

Unless you half-assed a world championship and still won

Usain bolt celebrating before the finish line in 2008 is an instance of that.
