Nope, they should've built closer to where I wanted to be. 1 star.

You're right, the popular opinion is to give all hotels that are far from you a bad review for being far from you.

Ehh depends on the purpose of the review. I think including location information in a review is pretty reasonable. There are some resorts that are absolutely 10/10 spots if you don't want to leave but are horrid if you want to do anything. That's fine, different strokes for different folks. If you're nuking a review on a hotel ONLY because of its location, yeah. But I don't think it's unreasonable to give a 4 star hotel in a bad location a 3.5 review.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about the location. I'm talking about the distance to where the guests need to be. The hotel has been where it is for ages. If being close to something or somewhere was so important, the guest should have made sure to book a hotel closer. Now nuking a hotel due to the hotel being far from where they need to be is narcissistic and pathetic.

One thing Airbnb does well is providing a separate rating specifically for the location.
