+96 Terry fox day should be abolished, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

This is just dumb.

by Ziemeangie 1 day ago

Its true, his story is really sad and we treat him like some national hero when really he was a victim.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You really don't understand what he accomplished, clearly.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

The government could have invested the money but they didn't. I think it is almost ironic and a bit disrespectful that they put him on the five dollar bill.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

He may have been a victim to cancer, but he raised over 20 million dollars before he died, and since then his foundation has raised over 900 million dollars for cancer research. I'd say that's pretty heroic

by Different_Bar 1 day ago

Sounds like you really struggled with the running part

by Neat-Reason 1 day ago

Bro just give $5, do some exercise, then get your freeze.

Anything for the freezie

Yea let's abolish a day that raises millions of dollars every year for fighting cancer. Hard to believe this isn't rage bait.

Oh the horrors of making kids perform physical activity that's good for them! Oh noooo. I'm realness, I would walk the terry fox run and loved that it meant being out of the classroom for an hour. The videos of him did scare me though

Says the jabroni

You think it feels disrespectful to run in honor of the guy known for running to fund cancer research?

by ruthie30 1 day ago

Whats disrespectful was the time I convinced the entire school to limp run with me. Let me tell you, the teachers did not think that was as funny as I did.

by Ornery-Panic 1 day ago

OP can't run and he made it everyone's problem.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Wtf?!??! I am not saying Terry Fox didn't do something amazing, I am saying it is sad and he is a victim of our governments neglect towards ill people...

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I am POS because i think it is sad and tragic what he had to do?!?!? The poor kid was willing to die on the side of the road just so people would listen and hear his story. It is so sad. Making kids run around the school reduces his legacy to the marathon and not his desperation.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

How on earth could anyone arrive at this conclusion?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

He is a Canadian hero. If you are Canadian, you should be ashamed of this

by Anonymous 1 day ago

Why should i be ashamed? because i think his legacy is more than a stupid run in the park? The system failed him.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

You said abolish the day we commemorate Terry fox. You did not say you want to do something else to commemorate him. Again this is shameful. We dont have many Canadian heros and to try to dismantle one of them as a Canadian is embarrassing. Do your penance and run an extra lap this year

by Anonymous 1 day ago

But that's the entire problem, even saying to 'run an extra lap'.... it was never about running- the boy was about to die and was desperate to do something since the government wasn't willing to help. I'll donate money sure, but the act of running does absolutely nothing except make people feel less guilt.

I'm not Canadian so everything I know about Terry Fox day comes from Letterkenny but to my eyes, none of what you said makes sense. What's wrong with kids running for a cause and what's disrespectful about it?

by Anonymous 1 day ago

It's like during the pandemic when the working class had to risk infection to pay the bills, and the middle class would bang pots in the evening (lol) to show support for the front line workers. To the privileged class it feels supportive but to everyone else risking their lives it was just demeaning. Terry should have never had to do the marathon of hope, it is a tragedy not something to celebrate.
