Sounds like you're taking offense at something that is meant in all good-heartedness as a compliment. OK.

I've never seen anyone get offended at being called "talented." Would you rather they say "hey you're so lame and you would have SO sucked at this otherwise, but you're definitely dedicated and good at it now!" It's not at all that deep. Everyone just uses "talented" to mean someone is good at something, and it's always a compliment. Some people never get to the point of being talented even with hard work and dedication.

Usain bolt is talented though. The average person will never reach his level, no matter how much training they do.

Someone who put in thousands of hours isn't just a non-beginner, that disingenuous wording. That's obviously an expert. You can still be a non-beginner and so far from having in put enough hours so that people can see that you have talent in your way to accomplished or expert, even though hard work will get others there, too.

I'm a professional artist. I prefer people say I'm skilled than talented. I worked for the quality you see, I didn't just luck upon it.
