If i didn't have three children I don't know that I would mind full time work. But I do, and I love seeing them, and my job gets in the way. They also exhaust me plenty by themselves.

I can imagine a parent would feel completely differently
by Anonymous3 days ago
Why would it be
by Virginia413 days ago
If it's fulfilling and rewarding, say no more. That's quite wonderful to see.

You have the summers off /s

I love my full time job. I also have kids and hobbies. I can have ALL these things and enjoy them all at once. Yes, retiring will be great too and I can then dedicate my energy towards something different. But I'm not counting the days just yet.

It sounds like you just don't have hobbies. At least not ones you truly enjoy and get invested in. It's cool that you found a job you love, but being unable to imagine life without labor is sad.

Why is bro mad that op is happy
by sylviawehner3 days ago
Nobody is mad here. Disagreement is not the same as anger.

Mind YOU I'm a rugby player, an open water swimmer and heavy into cooking
by Anonymous3 days ago
All fun activities but as I said, it sounds like you're not as invested in them as you could be. You sound more in love with labor than you do free time.
by ecronin3 days ago
I'm feeling the same about this. I love my job, but if I worked less, I would still have a routine, lots of positive human interaction, reasons to get out of bed, personal fulfillment, physical and mental exhaustion at the end of the day. I would have these things from getting to invest myself further into my art, sports, community, etc.
by Anonymous3 days ago
That seems like a big assumption and it's not sad if it gives them fulfillment and happiness. Everyone's vision of what that entails is different.

aren't hobbies labour? labour for fun sure but still labour
by Anonymous3 days ago
No, labor is labor. Hobbies are recreation.
by ecronin3 days ago
Do you have hobbies?
by Denesikdeborah3 days ago
The difference is that one of them does it to serve someone else, the other does it to serve themself. Doing something for a paycheck and doing it for relaxation are very very different.
by ecronin3 days ago
eh I guess, but I make stuff for other people all the time. Like on request, not just making gifts. I still consider it labour, like "labour of love" you know? But the love is for the hobby.

he teaches. i get your argument for office jockeys but, teaching is a valid passion
by Worldly-Parking3 days ago
That's a very arbitrary distinction.
by ecronin3 days ago
not really. dedicating yourself to a passion isn't the same as dedicating yourself to a "job"
by Worldly-Parking3 days ago
I'm not sure you'll find many folks here who disagree with you. Who is anyone else to say whether you enjoy working full time or not?
by tabitha953 days ago
I think it's more the fact that many articles report 80-85% of people dislike or hate their job so OP is in the minority in this respect. Happy for OP. I'm in the majority group, can't retire fast enough.
by Anonymous3 days ago
Sure, just... most of what you talk about can be description of any work. Aside from interacting from students and teachers - that's probably neat, stimulating and also keeping you with the times I imagine?
by Muted-City3 days ago
I am sorry but how is this unpopular?
by Frosty-Grade3 days ago
Bc most ppl hate working full time.
by Anonymous3 days ago
I get this. It's maybe an issue for me, but if it works for you then hell yeah. I have so much trouble being idle, so I work like fourteen hours days most days. Just can't do nothing, never have been able to. I like being exhausted at the end of each day.
by Katlyn893 days ago
I think you probably just love your job and not the fact that it's full time. If you were doing the same thing for less time, you would still more than likely be happy.
by mya323 days ago
It's because of people like you that I'll need to work all my life for nothing.
by Anonymous3 days ago
fr, all this discourse abt people hating their job is honestly for people to look themselves in the mirror and tell themselves that they didn't do as much as they could've, of course there's people who had struggles leading them to where they are, but there are also a lot of people who don't push themselves and as a result are where they are right now.

Not working is boring tbh.

Look who has no kids.
by Anonymous3 days ago
The best thing about having kids is that it's entirely your choice.
