+40 Multi story housing should be the exception, amirite?

Wait until you learn about cities

So people don't deserve safe housing because it's more expensive? 3D printed homes are made of concrete and are cheaper than conventional housing.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

3d printers use concrete? I missed a technology update.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

No, people wouldn't be able to afford safe housing because it's more expensive. Your logic is absurd. Your saying we should have nothing if it's not totally safe and every single person can have it. That's just dumb

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Y'know what is even cheaper? multiple story housing, if people want to live in the ground floor or live in a Bungalow they can buy those instead, the more people live in apartments the better it is for the people that dont want to live in them.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

They don't have elevators where you live? And don't they allow people in wheel chairs to live in first floor apartments if they wish to? The reality here is this is an unpopular opinion because it's ill informed.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

What happens when power goes out? If the elevator fails and takes weeks to be repaired? Just Google "trapped in apartment broken elevator". If they can only live on the first floor, that validates what I said, it limits housing. My opinion isn't ill informed, I live it every day.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Some incredibly rare event doesn't invalidate that multi story housing is quite literally the best and really only option to allow more people to live in a given space, which is an absolutely necessary thing in society.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Yes, it is. So they are limited to the first floor. So your solution is to remove tons of housing for everyone else? Then everyone is fighting over the first floor and their options are even more limited...

by National-Trade-4008 2 days ago

No one is talking about removing housing. Another false dichotomy.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

The powers goes out that much where you live? Here it has only gone out like 2 times in 4 years

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'm sure people in wheel chairs will be able to afford the one level apartment that hundreds of people are fighting for that would otherwise live on upper levels

by Anonymous 2 days ago

So people don't deserve safe housing because it takes too much land?

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Bluntly? Yes. There's a balance. If everyone lived in a bungalow, we simply wouldn't fit in most places. Not much good eradicating stairs if you've also eradicated all agricultural land and have nothing to eat

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Lmao no bro.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

My city has a population density of 14.7k per square mile across 607 square miles. Please explain how we'd all fit if housing was almost exclusively single story.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Your argument is called a false dichotomy, you should look it up.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

It's hilarious that you're accusing of others of throwing out false dichotomies when you've got the stance of "either it's single story housing or it's unsafe housing".

Stairs are the second leading cause of injury in the US This sentence says a lot about your country.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Europe has hundreds of thousands of injuries every year and thousands of fatalities.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

So if we get rid of stairs, we might as well get rid of cars next. That's the leading cause of injuries. /s

by MobileCandidate9444 2 days ago

No one's saying get rid of all stairs, simply limit them in residential buildings as much as possible.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Something tells me you've not lived in a hilly city like Pittsburgh. Stairs are necessary everywhere. To get to your front door you have to walk up to flights of stairs.

by MobileCandidate9444 2 days ago

I am assuming you are talking about 2 story houses not apartment complexes. I have a 2 story house. With a 3 and 5 year old. We all sleep upstairs. If the entire house was on one level we would have no front or back yard. My mum lives with me and she has the master bedroom and ensuite downstairs. Older people will choose single story properties. Many houses without a second floor are just as unsafe due to having raised and lowered floors to separate rooms. People will have to get a home that works for them. Some people need a lot of bedrooms and are all able bodied so it makes sense to have a 2 story house. In a lot of places you need a basement in case of a tornado. So multi story houses make sense. You can get stair lifts for the elderly and baby gates for small children. Life's a risk. Can't be protected from everything.

by Minimum_Nature 2 days ago

Because people don't deserve housing...

by Anonymous 2 days ago

No, build multiple stories housing like 5 or 6 and leave the ground floor to the people who need it if might be, but anyways most people arent disabled or elderly, this sounds like saying we should abolish biking because some people cant bike or peanut butter because some people are alergic to that and will die if they eat it

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Lots of apartment buildings have elevators. For houses, you can just not buy a place with stairs if you have trouble with stairs.

by faheyjordan 2 days ago

What is the elevator breaks? You are just confirming that it limits people's housing options.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Have multiple elevators. If one breaks, use another. For buildings that are 10+ floors, do you really think many people are taking the stairs to the higher floors?

by faheyjordan 2 days ago

You know they are only going to install the minimum required by law. Power goes out, they are all out anyway.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Without elevators/stairs, how are any major cities going to function? They simply don't have the space to put everyone on the ground floor. I live in NYC. If we tried to only have one story houses, we'd probably have to kick out 90 something percent of residents. There's nowhere near enough space to house everyone on ground floors, and a similar statement could be made for office buildings. Many buildings have generators for backup power if the power goes out.

by faheyjordan 2 days ago

Lifts also fail and cost money.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Isn't this like saying every bathroom stall should be handicapped and the only parking spaces should be those close enough to be handicapped?

by ronaldorutherfo 2 days ago

Smart people have the best informed decisions so we should eliminate any education beyond 4th grade so we can all get behind arguments like this.
