It's a safety feature

The press to turn of feature has been a feature for decades. One main idea behind it to mitigate the possible chance of you hitting the button on accident and instantly shutting down whatever device it is you're using. PCs for example. You hit the power button looking for the USB plug and your PC shuts off! Nope, I'd have to hit and hold that button for my PC to shut down. Same with my Xbox controller. Though I've never had the magnifier come up, not even on purpose.

Adding a switch means one more thing that can fail.

It's useful for when you accidentally tap the button.

Worst offender for this is the Xbox controller on the PC. No i dont want to bring up the magnifier i just want to turn off my controller. You know there's a way to turn this off, right? I can press that button on my controller all day long and it doesn't do a thing until I press and hold. Good lord, the idiocy of some people...
