Yeah, he was diddling them though. Hell, your "what if he wasn't?" scenario only makes sense if he was. Adults with healthy relationships with children don't ghost the children when they, say, start to go through puberty.

Most adults also understand that there's that inherent power imbalance between adults and children due to their age and experience disparities, and thus enforce certain emotional boundaries. For example, it typically isn't appropriate to treat a child as a confidant as they don't have the capacity to handle the emotional burden and complexity of adulthood. Given the extremely unusual circumstances surrounding Michael's fame and upbringing, I'm sure most adults, let alone children, would consider his situation to be way above their pay grades. Having to deal with these developmentally inappropriate situations is very damaging to a child's mental health. In other words, a lot of the emotional situations that MJ may have put those kids through is very similar to those experienced by parentified children.

I've seen many people use MJ's childhood as an argument for causing such significant childhood trauma that it somehow left him with a diminished, childlike intellectual capacity that excused such behavior. I've never seen people really say that what he did to those boys was traumatizing in its own way even without a sexual element.

Well, he did go through a ton of abuse as a kid. He was exposed to sex between his father, brothers and rando groupies (again, some of these women were underage, there are a lot of crimes flying around here). Forced to witness it when he was under 10. However, none of that excuses what he did next. And you're right - whether or not he did the sex crimes, all the other stuff is still wrong. I am 99% sure he committed those crimes - he would drop them once they hit puberty, a key indicator in sex crimes. But either way? Totally unfair to those kids.

Completely assuming that he didn't do anything inappropriate. Remember how long ago this was. The standards for what is right and wrong and the levels of being appropriate or not were wildly different back then. Remember that nowadays an a non parent adult being alone with a kid at all people consider bad, that wasn't always the case. Now that said even though the line was wayyyyy different back then it's still very likely that the line was crossed regardless
