Petite isn't specifically about height, it's about frame size. A 5'4" ballerina is going to be more petite than a 4'11" shotputter

Sizes are about frame. Petite is about height.

In clothing it is height. Like a short jacket for men has shorter sleeves and body cut by default. A 48 is still a 48 in around your body size. That is what it is.

Being petite is about the entire body frame. Height + weight + skeleton frame. If you're not slender at least, you're not petite regardless of your height. Shorty and petite aren't the same

Do you also advocate for a "long" section for woman who are on the taller side? I feel like yall already got a section and now you're just arguing to make it better lol. Why not make more sections for everyone else first?
by Anonymous2 days ago
Yeah i always saw petite as the opposite of "plus size". So it was smaller sizes. If it's mean to be based on height then I don't see why you wouldn't make a tall section too. Might as well do that in the men's section too.

I'm 5'0 and I feel this. 5'3–5'4 is average, not petite. Petite clothes still never fit. Just give me something actually made for tiny people lol.

I'm 5'3-5'4 and I buy children's clothing sometimes, they're cheaper. Clothes for small people already exist but labeled differently and charged differently. I think it's a bit of a scam.

If you would pay "so much money" why not just get the dress tailored to fit you?

As a tall man with long and narrow feet, I will stand in solidarity with you. Normal stores don't sell size 15(US) shoe, but big and tall stores only sell wide shoes. Also, bigger shoes don't have half sizes, but, for me, a 14 is too small but a 15 is too big and even harder to find than a 14. I usually just buy a size 14 and walk with my toes bent.

As a 5'4" person... you're right but kinda wrong. Petite clothing is too short, regular too long. Let's just all agree that women's clothing manufacturers just suck at creating inclusive clothing.

Same reason they use "plus sized" instead of fat, you can't just have a "short" section in a clothes store lmao

The US is a big place, I imagine there could be significant variations between local averages

You live somewhere outside the US with giant people in it or something? 4 women in my immediate family 5-2 and under. They do not have this issue you speak of in petite…non petite, sure!

This seems more like an advertising issue than a social lexical issue. What benefit is there to being considered "petite"? Does it get you something besides having a prototypically attractive trait? Is the term used to describe an actual circumstance or is it a vague adjective like "cool"? I'm a male and my spouse is not petite.... That being said I would be lying if I pretended I didn't see the weight that size and clothing marketing has on my spouse and her perception of situations I find innocuous. Maybe just let people think what they want about themselves and shop for clothing with the knowledge that uniformity of product sizes is a myth.

Maybe you aren't aware of this but sizing is almost totally useless. Mass produced clothing is made in South Asia using stamps for major cuts. Each piece of fabric per stamp is a slightly different size. Each piece is given to a different person for assembly. The premise that you are given direction on sizing to facilitate shopping is a dubious claim. You have no way to know whether that descriptor is an indicator of quality or an advertisement. There is no guarantee there is no recourse and you have no method to track manufacturing. Maybe you have trouble finding clothes. Telling others what words to use for themselves isn't gonna make brands improve their quality so it's probably not going to help you find good pants either.

A woman is generally considered petite if she is 5'4" (163 cm) or shorter. This definition primarily relates to height and is not a measure of weight or body shape, although petite sizing in fashion accounts for shorter proportions in limbs and torsos. So you are wrong.
