I dont think everything has to be joked about or made unserious, amirite?

I do think a lot of this is due to comedy now as well. So many comedians make jokes about serious events which downplay any trauma attached to it. Then, like you said, it goes online and everyone that sees it takes it as something to be joked about and removes the severity of the base material.

I feel like theres a smart way to do it. Like George Carlin. But when most people do it it's just like "everyone look how detached and nonchalant I am to be joking about tragedy haha pls give me attention"

That's different to me because it's people activeley going through something traumatizing. Not outside detached people joking about serious things they aren't involved with

I think weirdly a lot of it comes down to the quality and intent behind the joke. I genuinely think you ‘can' make a good joke about anything. Jokes can be pointed, insightful and reveal truths we are often uncomfortable in sharing seriously. The problem is that a lot of people don't actually make good jokes. They just make lazy, ‘shocking' jokes intended to provoke a reaction rather than make any point etc.

Would this qualify: I have an eye doc appt on 9/11. I said to my husband, would it be funny if I told the eye doc I'm having double vision, and she puts up the letter chart and I see the twin towers?
