"Look at this loser ruining his own life Imao" People absolutely say that about people with drug, alcohol and food addictions. Hell, if some dude loses his family because he's a sex addict who gets busted with a prostitute, they'll tear him down too.

Feel like you hit the nail on the head with this

Okay, that doesn't make those right either. "Ohh they did that to themselves" so what? You gain absolutely zero from being an ass to someone for that, and people, humanity in general need to learn to have more empathy

For gamblers, the brain is releasing the drugs directly into their system. Mostly adrenalin and dopamine.

But you won't die from a seizure

you might die of hunger though, or of something which you can't cure cause you have lost all your money

That isn't a place that's only at the end of the gambling addiction path. I'm not saying they don't deserve empathy or help, but also we can strive to understand why some others are less likely to care for a gambling addict, over, say, a family just born into poverty. And they're right in saying the gambling addict has more accountability in being in that position than someone born into it.

You're right. Empathy is usually so detached from these discussions.

Totally agree. People forget gambling addiction is literally engineered. Nobody laughs at someone with lung cancer from cigarettes, so why mock someone trapped in a system designed to drain them?

Cruel? Yes. Ignorant? No.

I may be guilty of that. It just seems like such an easy urge to control to me.

it's really not on you, most gambling addicts are desperate people in a terrible economic condition who see no way out, and they fall victim to a system which is engineered to make them feel like it's the way out when it's really just a deeper hell

It's not your fault if you're an addict but it's your responsibility to get treatment. Bar yourself from casinos and online sites and get therapy.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

it's really hard to talk about responsibility in these cases cause you don't realize you are an addict often, you feel like you might win everything back the next spin, or that you are in control, that's how they get you

For someone to have a porn and gambling addiction they have to be a total idiot. Sorry not sorry

You are part of the problem. A person with a gambling addiction is a victim of a system designed to abuse them and you shame them for literally being susceptible to something that was MADE BY A LOT OF BEHAVIORAL SCIENTISTS to ruin them. You are evil.

Just play a video game. Things exist, it's on you if you try them and get addicted. Just don't try.

You're essentially being tricked out of your money by pixels, not saying it's not addictive but I can see the shameful argument

I bet you ten bucks that they're completely normal

Addictions are usually seen as having a victim that willingly engages with them, at least at first, and often receive less sympathy as a result of that perceived culpability.
