+108 Catching a fish/animal is the biggest dopamine rush on such a primal level, its unmatched, amirite?

That's how the neighbourhood cat feels everyday I guess about my hands.

Wait until you experience a handjob.

You're proud of outsmarting a fish ? Jeez louise

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I aint smarter than all of them. I just gotta be smarter than some of em.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

honestly doesnt sound like an achievement when u put it like that, but when you go through learning what and when to do and succeed over a fish, it so surprisingly rewarding

by Anonymous 2 days ago

This genuinely made me laugh out loud. Tremendous response.

I'm from a small town in the middle of nowhere in Canada. Grew up hunting and fishing. Learned to hunt hare with my grandpa when I could barely walk. I never understood and will probably never understand feeling good after killing something. Sure, I get that it's hard and there's the chase of it and you're proud of having success, but really you effectively just killed something, and it being such a rush is weird I think. I'm not against hunting per say, but the feeling that some people get while doing it is weird af to me.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I'll agree there's nothing glorious about killing something else. It's a disturbing consequence of our existence that others must die so we can live, but finding pleasure in it is just... twisted, honestly.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I catch and release unless its injured badly, then i eat it

by Anonymous 2 days ago

How's it weird? It makes perfect sense as a natural evolutionary instinct for a predator to have.

hey keep in mind that the greatest chess player of all time is a stockfish

by Familiar-Ask 2 days ago

I just don't get it with fishing.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Idk man I've done fishing and I like fishing. It's definitely not the biggest rush I've had though, not by a long way. I find fishing relaxing more than anything

Making an animal feel scared and helpless has never made me feel good.

What about emerging triumphant in a one to one, unarmed test of martial prowess. Mortal Kombat. Like if you catch a fish... okay cool. But you just kinda sit there and wait to catch a fish. And I know your gonna ballistic telling me I dont understand the nuances of high level fishing and the billions of calculations that go on in a fishermen's mind like bait type, exact fishing location, water currents, weather tide is coming or going, relative temperature, dietary habits of the targeted fish and the delicate dance and test of endurance that comes with landing a fish.... a test of endurance, strength, cunning... ...but thats not really true.... you just pull. And thats cool. But its not that cool.

by myahhane 2 days ago

Hey, this is unpopular opinion after all, im not here to change anyones mind, and ur right for the most part, all u really need to know is what bait for what wish and when to go, rest is mostly luck, but the feeling of success never matched anything for me

by Anonymous 2 days ago

And you know I was quite dismissive and flippant about catching a fish, and that was wrong of me tbh. Catching a fish means more than just having a good showing in any competitive fishing competition. Its like a pure, primal display that you have triumphed against nature. What does it mean to be a man? Well being a provider. Being self sufficient. Being able to support a family, and you do this.... by catching a big fish! Problem is.... its one thing to do it with your carbon fibre rod and your nylon blend fishing, and your goretex jacket and your polarised anti glare ray bans.... but what if you had nothing? Could you do it from scratch? I dont think so. And thatll always be in the back of your mind, casting a shadow over your fishing victory. You didn't catch a fish. Your a fraud. Now if you catch a fish with your bare hands... then yeah... maybe. But anything short of that.. eh

Not everyone would feel that dopamine rush in that situation. Humans vary this way. For me, the food chain is a grim and brutal necessity of organic life. I'm not at all thrilled by causing suffering and death for the benefit of myself and my family. I find this aspect of organic life horrific actually.

by No_Floor_1965 2 days ago

Yup. I caught a fish once, instead of feeling proud I felt like a monster. Threw the fish back in and decided that fishing wasn't for me

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I can feel this. I like the idea of hunting, but it gets too deep for me. I'm more confortable by being a hypocrite and get my killed animals from the shop.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Suffering is just chemicals you'd avoid in an ideal world

Being hunted with a rifle is the best way to die for a wild animal

I love when people talk about their passion.

I appreciate that you put to words why people enjoy it. And it's very profound too. It actually makes a lot of sense, because without a personal sense of reference for something similar - it sure always felt silly to me. And I'm not someone to yuck someone's yum just because I don't get it, but none of the components of the activity added up, let's just say that :D

I appreciate that you put to words why people enjoy it. And it's very profound too. Having known a lot of people who like fishing, this is not why they like it. In fact, it's kinda the opposite. They like the calming nature of fishing. The fact that they get a dopamine rush from this is a bit abnormal.

Imagine catching a bear though, how awake you'd feel!

by Anonymous 2 days ago

would be the best 20 seconds of my life

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Ahh it's a great feeling but to be honest I don't think it matches climbing a hard rock (bouldering) or even sketchy difficult tree. Especially the tall ones. That rush you get when you're holding on high up with a risk of danger is unmatched.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Idk, I've done a decent bit of fishing, and it's always been boring at best.

by corkeryclement 2 days ago

I have attempted fishing a couple different times in my life, every time I feel like a monster when I catch one and throw it back and don't wanna ever do it again lol. Not that people are monsters for fishing and hunting I get it it's part of life, I'm not a vegetarian, I don't judge anyone else for it, but it's very much not for me. Makes me uncomfortable.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I could understand hunting and shooting an elk, but fish are dumb asf. Plus sitting there waiting is boring.

by Nearby-Ad-6709 2 days ago

you clearly never fished, respectfully, or at least not alone

by Anonymous 2 days ago

I did, also alone (trying to enjoy the family hobby), and I feel the same as stated above. Just boredom. Not everyone has the soul of a fisherman I guess

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Hahaha I dont hunt or fish but this is how my fatass feels chowing down on a chicken or fish carcass after I cut all the meat off. Picking off the bones with my hands activates the primal monkey part of my brain.

by Ecstatic-Till-942 2 days ago

Someone has obviously never found a shiny Pokemon.

by Anonymous 1 day ago

literally lol i release fish 90% of the time

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I know exactly the feeling, I have the same thing when I absolutely bomb a drive off the tee on the golf course. Hobbies rule

by angiethiel 1 day ago

Personally not a fan of fishing. But I want to try hunting

by Anonymous 1 day ago

I once hunted down a mouse that I spotted in my kitchen. I cornered it and then smashed it with a shoe when it ran. It felt insanely primal, like every hunter instinct my ancestors ever had came flooding back.

by Kooky_Competition459 1 day ago

I enjoy fishing too. But it's like 98% luck. Not exactly the accomplishment you're making it to be.
