In person public school will cease to exist, amirite?
by Sonya242 days ago
The primary/secondary purpose of school is childcare as well. Most people cannot leave their 6 year old home alone for internet learning

This is probably coming from someone who doesn't teach.

Or have kids.

Or experience with a decent education.

Forcing children to sit at a computer for hours is not realistic for so many reasons.

Zoom school was one of the biggest disasters of the pandemic. I don't know if there were any other options at the time, but it clearly was a failure it screwed a lot of these kids up, severely.
by Aubree732 days ago
Nah, it wasn't zoom school. It was denying an ongoing pandemic that is literally causing brain & neurological damage & chronic fatigue syndrome.

That's not even true. There's the same number of school days every year so I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that there's longer breaks.

Who's going to watch these kids while the parents are working?
by Anonymous2 days ago
My kids have the same school hours and days off I did when I was their age 25 years ago
by Anonymous2 days ago
Well that's not true

Younger generations are already suffering from decreasing social interactions. Completely isolating them en masse will be a disaster.
by Anonymous2 days ago
No way! There'd be revolution in the streets! Kids can't and won't sit at home behind a screen each day!
by Anonymous2 days ago
I mean, they will, but not for school.

Interesting opinion. I think you're wrong and you just delegitimized thousands of working professionals. Folks who work in higher education are dealing with the consequences of online learning now. You should talk to some of them so you're better informed. One size does not fit all when it comes to education.

I don't see any sign of this happening and I don't think the school day has changed since I went to school in the 80's.

School doesn't just teach in you in class tho. It teaches you to be social, to have friends, to network. Sitting kids in front of computers of having them only spend time at home is detrimental to development.
by Ferne372 days ago
I hope not. Kids need opportunities for social engagements as well (even outside of learning), covid messed so many people's tolerance for social interactions.
by EstablishmentBig74322 days ago
No, never. More likely private schools go away. Because the 1 percent is gobbling up more and more money. And fewer people will be able to participate in all that.
by Felicitykautzer2 days ago
My kids school day is longer than mine was in 80s and 90s. They seem to have more days off throughout the year but their summer is shorter.
by Rozella382 days ago
Falling into the doorman fallacy, school does more then just educate kids, it provides a safe space to socialize, and keep kids busy while parents are at work.

Online teaching was way worse. Students didnt focus and zoom had tons of problems. Anyone could take advantadge and blame zoom or internet for why they couldnt join the class or left early. Its the same with jobs. Devs had their work slowed down a ton. Unless zoom is built to be flawless or a way better competitor shows up, online classes/jobs will never be the norm, just the plan b

Maybe at some stage in the future, yeah. But private schools will go as well.
by Anonymous2 days ago
If COVID taught us anything, is that remote learning IS THE WORST THINGS EVER FOR CHILDREN
by Anonymous2 days ago
Where is this happening?
by Anonymous2 days ago
t each year the public school day gets shorter and shorter. No it doesn't.

This is in fact an unpopular opinion; so you accomplished that
