+75 If you celebrate violence due to difference in beliefs, you have already closed your mind to accepting or understanding viewpoints outside of your own, amirite?

I'll just say that ppl like to boil down "viewpoints" as some enigmatic things that don't effect ppl, but when your "viewpoints" are trans ppl shouldn't exist or gay ppl shouldn't have certain rights, or we don't treat ppl like immigrants illegal or not as ppl with rights, etc. then those aren't just " viewpoints" that's bigotry and hatred and I will not respect that. PS calling "Woke Left" is not real, it's just BS rhetoric the right calls anything they don't like. PS PS we have no idea the motivation of the shooter

This is exactly how I feel. Yes he was a vile, vile person but he was still a person with a family, with a wife and kids who had to see him get shot quite viscerally in the neck. They don't deserve to live without a husband/father. We shouldn't be celebrating political violence AT ALL. America needs massive gun reform asap.

that‘s a man who made money off of spewing hateful racist and sexist rhetoric. not celebrating political violence and america does need gun reform, but im not gonna show empathy to a rage-baiting bigot who did nothing for the world but incite violence and hate

I do agree. I care more about his family who had to watch him die. I feel empathy towards them and not him specifically.

I wonder if context makes a difference to you? For example am I supposed to be as sad for say the death of a "pro dead kids" talking head as I am for a champion of civil liberties or social justice? Do I believe it's "close minded" to disregard the beliefs of someone who advocates from a POV prejudice? No I do not.

I do not celebrate or condone his death, but I also find it hard to feel bad about losing someone who is on record saying that kids being shot in schools is acceptable. Some may say he got what was coming to him. I do feel bad for his family though, losing someone you love is never easy, even if they were a sentient piece of crap.

I'm very much on the left politically, but I believe political violence is abhorrent. Just because I disagree with someone on politics doesn't mean I want harm to come to them, my stance is and will always be the only real victory we can win in politics is at the ballot box And violence undermines any effort to do that.

Hello there. I'm a conservative, and I agree with OP. What is it that you're trying to shut down exactly? Does this event not warrant discussion in your opinion?
