My sister is a hairstylist and always did the opposite of what I asked her to do. It made me hate going to salons later on. I learned to cut and dye my own hair during covid and I have not looked back.

Haha yeah, mine was in hair school while I was in high school. I remember when I started as a freshman it was her first time doing highlights and she tested on me. So there were two giant bleached skunk stripes on the sides of my head. I was so traumatized.

Agreed, and also mess up your hair before they style it. That's how they really get you— it looks great when it's styled with a ton of work and product, but if that's not what you want to be doing every morning make sure it also looks ok if you just use a normal styling routine.

I'd say honest not blunt. You can be polite and honest.

Take pictures with you, and be super descriptive about length, and issues that frustrate you. I am getting older with some waves and grays, so smoothing my hair is much more of a chore. If I don't blow dry it with good technique, it gets frizzy and big and actually ages me. If I take the time to get it good and dry, it's smooth and bouncy with a great shape and magically makes me look perkier.🤷🏻♀️. Going shorter made a big difference for me, it's only a couple minutes with the hair dryer, instead of having to dry longer sections of hair.

100%. Presently got my hair colored and told my stylist right away when the color didn't look right. She actually thanked me for correcting her early so she could fix it in the moment!!

One lady at a place that tailored to men gave me the worst haircut I ever had. It was styled and still looked off so I asked for a comb, just brushed my hair forward and it was awful some of my hair went to the middle of my forehead, some other hairs were past my eyes. I asked her co worker if she could even it out and she did but with the damage that was done I left with a bowl cut.
