I feel like this is true. I worked with a guy who was super extroverted but also super awkward. He would constantly try and chat up all of the girls, and fail miserably. He would overhear there's a party and drop obvious hints he wanted to be invited. He wasn't bullied to his face, but when he was out of the room, people would just laugh at him. Made me feel kinda bad. Dude was craving social connections but just couldn't relate to people.
