+111 All (or at least most) professional work boots should be electrically insulated, amirite?

by cathrynhessel 2 days ago

I'm begging you not to make the workboots that I get for my job twice as heavy as they are now. I do not need anti-shock boots, I just need shoes that'll keep my feet dry and not let a catfish spike me in the foot.

Would it add that much weight? Anti shock boots never seemed much heavier than any other kind to me. Sounds like your boots have a solid waterproof layer anyway, in theory that layer could be insulated treated rubber instead of whatever it is now, might not make a huge difference weight wise

My current pair is leather that's been treated to be slightly more waterproof, actually! The soles are rubber but they're not marked as shockproof. I actually went with this pair because they were a lot lighter and a lot more cheap than the shockproof/chemical proof ones.

Boots are already electrically insulated. You should have a rubber mat on the ground anyway when you're working on live/potentially live equipment.

I don't think they use real rubber in shoe soles anymore for the most part, it's like a plastic composite with some rubber mixed in At least that's what I've heard

There's problems of added weight, and the problem of testing the boots. Those tests cost money.

Yes and all watches should be bulletproof

I don't think that's a very fair comparison, a bulletproof watch would have like a one in a million chance of doing anything helpful if you got shot, but if you're wearing shock boots electricity can't even zap you in most normal situations This would be more like saying "all vests should be bulletproof", in a world where a bulletproof vest only costs like 20% more than the normal kind
