Not brining a gift to a birthday is crazy to me

by keeblerrashawn 2 days ago

Like I said, not if it's someone renting out a giant club and inviting 100 of their closest acquaintances. Maybe buying them a drink is nice but I don't think you're obligated to go to the store for it.

That's crazy to me still😭 That's usually people's milestone birthdays

by keeblerrashawn 2 days ago

No, these are just people turning 24 or whatever. I promise you they are not milestones. They are just very extroverted people who really want to have a big party and or network.

That's the thing, it's so normalized to bring SOMETHING to the birthday. Unless you're really close with someone, you just bring a generic meaningless gift.

Do you often go to strangers birthdays? Unless it's a surprise to you can you not ask?

by keeblerrashawn 2 days ago

I'm talking about like someone I see once or twice a year who invited essentially everyone in their personal and professional network.

To me its odd to attend if you dont feel like you can get them a gift

by keeblerrashawn 2 days ago

Okay, agree to disagree then. But I can tell you the events I am talking about specifically, the host was definitely not expecting a gift from all 100 people they invited.

Yeah I go to mutual friends or family friends bdays all the time where idk them that well. Similarly, I've been to many weddings where idek the bride or groom personally.

by Anonymous 2 days ago

Unless you learn about the party on the way there I still dont get it. For weddings I feel like you just give money atp,

Skill issue. If you're going to a birthday party, you should know enough about the person to bring a decent gift. I've never had an issue bringing an appropriate gift to even friends of friends birthdays.

What part of your 20s?

because dont eat or drink anything if you didnt contribute

by Parking_Highway 2 days ago

Its not a potluck all the time. If I have you over for my birthday, I don't check whether u got me a gift before allowing you to take food.

Isn't your presence itself merely enough? In your case I'm guessing the answer is no
